1080Ti idling at 55C

Hi there!

My 1080Ti is idling at 55C with little work load in the background. My Geforce drivers seem to be up-to-date. I've had the card for 4 years now, could it be the thermal compound?

Just to add, after posting, I noticed there is a discrepancy between the driver date on the task manager to what the most recent driver update is on Geforce

Idle temps mean nothing, the fans won't even run because not needed and silence is better.

 

It's under load that you'd see if something was wrong.

I thought they did? Before I'd never really idle over the 40s. The card has a massive heatsink

Since when the fan doesn't run any cooling is provided by the case you could just have dirty filters, or something that puts out more heat in the case, or the room temp is higher... it doesn't really say anything about the card itself.

 

You might want to look at card power draw, it might also be some software/configuration that prevents it from idling -> draws more power -> heats up more.

1. Are you using multi-monitor? 

2. Turn on GPU activity indicator in Nvidia CP and check what software is using hardware acceleration. 

3. Try reboot your PC.

After 4 years of use, you defo should clean and repaste the card, it'll certainly help temps

Given the age, needs gone through. Can check the memory clocks if theres an issue with multi monitor causing high idle.
