Is it worth it to buy this?

Go to solution Solved by xAcid9,

Just leave the side panel open while gaming imo. No, don't buy a 730 unless its really really dirt cheap.

Allow me to start by introducing the situation.

I've been trying to help someone I know with their Dell Inspiron 3650, they're having issues with thermal throttling after prolonged gaming sessions which I think happens because the heatsink is so small. They usually play Team Fortress 2, which is a CPU intensive game and on top of that their CPU is also busy with integrated graphics too, so I got thinking. Maybe it would be a good idea to buy an appropriate GPU for this PC to help off-load some of that stress off of the CPU by letting another component deal with the graphics.

I know upgrading to a whole new PC is the actual solution here and they're going to but that's gonna take a while and so we want to work with what we have. I just need to know if buying something like a GT 730 would help and if it would be enough for it to be worth it. If it's not we'll just wait until they can buy a new PC.

My thanks to anyone who can give me some insight here.

Current Dell Inspiron 3650 specs that I could find (will try to clarify if necessary):
CPU: i3-6100

GPU: none

Memory: 4GBx2 of DDR3L (1600 MHz)

About $40 too expensive.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.
