Opening a software through a firewall

Hi everyone,

 

I would like to install Unreal engine 5 and unity on a PC in the office, but it needs administrator access to install them, which I don't have. Can I just install them on my external SSD and use it on that computer without needing administrator access and go through the firewall? Do I need some prerequisites program that has to be installed on that PC (for unreal engine)?

Maybe, but the better solution is to talk to your company's IT team or your manager to find an actual procedure for installing software instead of trying to circumvent security measures. That's how ransomware happens.

Any competent IT department will have running non-authorized executables blocked anyway, so you'll just end up wasting your time. Not to mention that it can reasonably be assumed that you shouldn't be slacking off at work to practice your off-hour game dev hobby. How do I know you want to do that? Because you have to ask us how to circumvent your corporate policy instead of asking for permission. I suggest doing your job and getting good enough at it that you can increase your salary to the point where you can work part-time and develop your game in your spare time.

You're right i should just ask for permission. But maybe your deduction skill also still has to be refined. Slacking off at work? How about the fact that i can access the computer during summer holiday and planning to do some dev stuff there when there are literally no works to do? Maybe think carefully again before acting like you know me and my situation.
