Do I need an amplifier.

Terryv

I just bought a heavily discounted DT 770 250 ohm.

Will my motherboard be able to drive those properly or do I need to purchase an amp?

I wasn't initially looking for such a high impedance headset, but it was so much less expensive than the 80 ohm version, I couldn't pass it up.

If I do need an amplifier, I'm open to some suggestions.

System specs:

4790k

GTX 1050

16GB DDR3

Samsung evo SSD

a few HDD's

Well, what motherboard do you have?

Chances are that if it's a fairly new motherboard which is not a bottom of the barrel, it will suffice for the time being until you can save up for an amp.

Should work fine.

IMO, get AMP way later when you decide if it's worth it or not.

As it turns out, the motherboard is more than capable of driving these headphones.

You were right.
