with half or little over half your budget, you could probably build a ryzen 5600/ ryzen 5700x/12th gen 12400/ 12th gen 12700 setup with a dedicated gpu(just in case some of the render/software needs gpu).

Sure thing! Since you already have an intel build above, let me give you an AMD alternative build at around the same price, which could be same or better in terms of performance. Alternatively, you can just get 5700x for cpu and at least 3060/3060ti/6600xt/6700xt and it would be around £1200-1300. You would still need a good gpu as you really did not specify every software that's that your dad is using.

About what id reccommend

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZWF9wc

The 12700f is a good cpu choice for most professional work, and About what id choose for this price

Cheap aftermarket cooler to keep the cpu cool

Good board for the price

Cheapest kit of 32gb ram.

Good 2tb storage

I'd try and go nvidia here since they're more suited to professional programs

Nice case and a good 850 watt psu

If it's not a problem for your father I think there are some card readers/ DVD readers that you can connect to the PC via USB.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/M3fWJM this here would be my build.

I chose this case because it has 2 ODD slots/ 5.25" bays which can be used for DVD readers (the DVD readers do not come with the case).

Personally I think a usb card reader is better as it can be easily replaced when format change. But there is room in the case to handle a 2nd external opening 5.25 device.

Is this ok in build You made?

  • Note: The Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler may require a separately available mounting adapter to fit the MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard.

The NH-D15 has been shipping with an LGA 1700 bracket since December 2021. The note is present to advise those with older units that a bracket may be necessary.

The memory modules are low profile and do not conflict with the cpu cooler.

The installed height of the NH-D15 is 165mm. The case CPU cooler height limit is 170mm.

The NH-D15 is compatible with the motherboard and there is no  interference with VRM heatsinks.

The GPU is 335mm long. The case GPU length limit is 405mm.
