It depends on what your board supports. If it does either one (I've not seen such a board that I could confirm did both), the PCIe / NVME is faster at 2,500-4,000+ mbps. A SATA M.2 does not interchange with PCIe / NVME and is capped at the standard 550-575 mbps of SATA.
