Closed back headphones recommendations (light gaming and music listening)

Nate21601

I currently have TYGR 300rs but I'm moving into a dorm in a month and a little fearful of the noise levels. So I'm hoping to find closed back headphones that are some what comparable to the TYGRs.

My budget is ~250. I also currently have a FiiO E10K amp.

I mainly play FPS games and listen to all types of music.

I would recommend the beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 80(!) Ohms. They seem to be very similar to the TYGR 300rs and cost about the same.

What kind of music do you listen to?

Pretty much all types expect heavy metal. Mainly hip-hop and pop.

Rode NTh 100 or akd k371 would be my go to for those genres. Dt 770's tuning is far too unforgiving for hip hop and metal

Thanks for the recommendations. I totally meant except heavy metal.

Rode NTH-100 wreck in this price range and they can run on anything.  I just got mine a few days ago and absolutely love them.

They're headphones for use in the studio so it's representative of the source audio but it has an energy to it, like as zeos put it someone turned the EQ to 11.  I describe them as a Beyerdynamic DT-880-600ohm that doesn't need a small generator to power and it gives that energy while still at a level that isn't going to cause hearing damage.

Now that I have these I'm going to use them as a baseline against everything else I own, I think it will give me a better idea of each of them by comparing them to an actual reference pair.

The only fault I can find in them so far is the cable is difficult to replace with an aftermarket set because of the proprietary locking system and the ear cups won't allow for all ear sizes.  Other than that I can wear them for a 10 hour day off and on with little discomfort and they're built very well, imaging and footsteps are great and soundstage is impressive for being closed back.  There really are just about no downsides to these short of the two I mentioned.

I've heard at least one reviewer say the K361 is better than the K371 but I'm pretty sure it was DMS and I don't have the same taste as him.  But I do have the K361-bt and absolutely love them once you put some thicker pads on.

I personally just like the akg k371 way better mainly camdue to Harman tuning makes a way more fun headphone than the alg k361 which I find can sound a bit anemic in SE tracks. But my preference tends to be on the more colored sounding side of things

I own the 770 while I do love it for competitive gaming and critical listening it sucks for pleasure listening especially if your into lo Fi hip hop or a lot of badly produced music like I am

@supertntstar@Psittac@rice guruThanks for the recommendations. I decided to go with the NHT-100.

One thing I didn't consider, and I'm not certain if it was covered here, is that the NTH-100 will reflect exactly how good or bad a recording is.  *I guess that just means you need to listen to quality recordings lol!!!!  They're amazing headphones to be honest.  I only listen to Tidal for music and the majority of the content I find is great.  I don't have lossless either.  These headphones are making me want to take listening serious and dare I say it quantify what I hear.  I'm debating making a thread about how you can quantify a headphone, list all of the qualities a pair can have or lack.  There are so many thing's that you almost need to just go with your gut and enjoy what you have.  Leave it to the reviewers to convey only the highlights or pitfalls of a pair.
