Thought about getting a custom loop for my pc

Not only for esthetics but also for better cooling and a quieter pc

A kit from EK is pretty expensive

Are there more good companies?

I thought about ordering tubing and fittings from ali express but m not sure about that

Are there any good options?

Basically just buy all your stuff off aliexpress, usually its either bykski or barrow

For reference on what you should be paying

No more than 50$ for pump res

No more than 100$ for 480 60mm thicc copper rad

No more than 50$ for a block (full gpu blocks expensive, just stick a cpu block on it and cool everything else with air)

For stuff like tubing and fittings im not sure, prob also use aliexpress prices as reference, also hardlime or soft tubing? Hardline is a massive PITA and will take days to build and makes changing and upgrading anything a massive pain, you dont gain anything other than aesthetics which is not exactly a real gain for what you trade. Soft tubing is far easier to build and alot less of a pain for taking stuff out and upgrading since the tubes are flexible and dont require to be re bent cause they can bend however the fk they want (though tight bends may be abit of an issue but who in the hell runs >90° bends anyways?)

Youll also have to maintain the damn thing too, need to stop crap from growing in it so you need biocides like silver kill coil though unsure if glycol wont nuke a regular loop as thats what i plan on mixing into my ghetto loop to stop any galvanic corrosion and crap growing in it. And also its kinda like needing to change your cars antifreeze after awhile so after half a year or so you wanna swap the coolant for new fluid

Btw custom water is completely pointless other than oc nuts or silence fanatics so if you dont do proper heavy overclocking or you dont care that much about noise and your current setup is still working fine enough noise wise custom water is a complete waste of money and you are better off upgrading something more important like the cpu or gpu, personally im an oc nut and im not satisfied with a measly 4.7g 1.5v bench stable on my e8400 so water makes sense for me and i took the ghetto loop route so dirt cheap and great price performance but my god it is annoying asf to build

What are your current specs aand temps?

10900K

2080

I'm not willing to loop the GPU since it still has 2 years of warrant left and it would be much more expensive

I've got a 3 year old Corsair h100x that does start to show its age (used it on my old overclocked I5 3550 and Overclocked i5 10600K)

10900K is on 5.2GHz (rn 5.1GHz because of the aio) so a better cooling solution will be good

Also a quieter CPU cooler would be nice (2080 is not that loud)

Underload the 2080 reaches around 60c (custom fan curve and undervlot)

When overclocked 75 core and 750 memory temp is around 65-67c

10900K is around 60-70c in games

When doing stuff like rendering or tasks that dement that extra CPU power it can reach 90c+

I'll go for soft tubing I know hard tubing is a real PITA

Currently my 10900K is on 5.1GHz because of my weak AIO

Colling such chip at 5.2GHz+ with a cheap 240 AIO is not really possible

I know it can do 5.2GHz but my AIO cant hold it so I want to get a better cooling solution but not a new AIO

I made an example loop on EK's website to see prices and the products that ill need

Fittings are 10/13 and the tube (which is a soft tube) has 12.7mm outer diameter and 9.5 inner diameter and I cant find a tube like that on ali express

That or go to alphacool they basically are right in that range. But gpu block I wanna offer a word of caution. All the other parts NEED heatsinks too and those small ones NEED thermal epoxy which means they can NEVER be removed again.

hence why I advice to spend a bit extra and get a 100$ full block.

I like the HeatKiller blocks. Though expensive, they do a really good job for cpu cooling.

Any half decent full cover block is plenty. As long as there is proper contact with all parts that need cooling all is good.

Isnt heatkiller usuall cheaper tho?

I think it depends on the top plate. You can get full copper or acrylic topped. The acrylic topped ones are usually a little cheaper yeah.

Cant just have airflow over em and need heatsinks?  I thought a fan would be enough to cool everything as long as theyre getting airflow, i mean dinky little heatsinks dont seem to do that much without a fan cause not much mass to soak up the heat, no sht my foil ram heatspreader is surprisingly effective w a fan over it

Not sure if its really worth a few hundred $ just to get that thing an extra 200mhz or so higher which will be completely pointless anyways as power draw will be absolutely ludicrous and you are better off just running a 1.2 or 1.25v all core oc as thats still around 5g

Although if were talking futureproofing the cooling solution i mean you have high end hardware so when you upgrade and buy more power hungry and newer high end hardware the cooling system is upgradable and reusable so custom loop would make sense in that regard, i mean noone is exactly comfortable when their cpu starts going >90c and their oc is nuked cause of it

So when the CPU goes into nuclear mode my face is also cocking

And it'll be nice to have quieter computer

Oh no absolutly not. Thats how a ton of prople have killed their gpu by just using a g12 with fan and no proper heatsink.

You need both flat out and by then you are close to byski or barrow gpu block prices and theyll do the job a ton better.

Or alphacools whole gpu aio series if ya only wanna cool the gpu.

Seems ok (the pump res is d5 so pricing makes sense)

Though would highly advise against such thin rads, atleast look at the 40mm stuff and pref the 60mm thicc stuff too

And isnt pvc piping something you can buy off your local hardware store or something? I got 3/8 clear tubes off my local eshop for a test run of what a ghetto loop would look like but i assume theyre also available in local hardware stores or anything that sells tubing or deals with water stuff

So ya might just wan a go to amazon because you arent saving much here. Especially with the rad and pump reservoir combo.

Shipping prices are all free from aliexpress

Same stuff from amazon will total in about double because of shipping

Oh no absolutly not. Thats how a ton of prople have killed their gpu by just using a g12 with fan and no proper heatsink.

You need both flat out and by then you are close to byski or barrow gpu block prices and theyll do the job a ton better.

Or alphacools whole gpu aio series if ya only wanna cool the gpu.

Is it just the vrms overheating or something? Or is it the vram thats overheating? Cant think of anything else that would produce major heat other than those 2

I see you are from isreal makes sense.

Yeah just for tubing id check out a diy store near you. Also for the rad I recommend a thicker one 40mm ones aint that great.

Both. Vram easily goes to 100c in no time and usually doesnt have a temp sensor so it tends to just go till they die.

You'd be surprised hoe much heat vrm and vram chips generate. I have an risbear gpu block and the watercooling part and vrm+vram part are not connected. Its a big chunk of metal and it gets proper toasty after about 10 minutes of gaming. Not due to lack of airfloe or anything thats just hoe much heat is generated.

Damn, though i do wanna try chilling vram in the future, would be kinda interesting to see if chilling vram does anything, but if they get that hot that fast then maybe a 100w fridge for a chiller loop may not be enough, how much power does vram even draw anyways? Gotta be more than regular ram if it gets that hot

100w fridge chiller isn't even enough for a pentium let alone a whole as gpu :p.

There is a reason those chillers diy and commercial were 700w or more

Im not certain but it remember that gddr5 could go up to like 4w a chip which honestly is a TON of power. More than some current day mobile cpu's 😛

That trend has not gone down and gddr6 and 6x as well as gddr5x can consume more.

So yeah pretty much tells you why it needs cooling 😛

No im only chilling rams and vram because theyre lower power draw and usually yeild the most benifit vs cpu and gpu core oc, something that i can daily pretty much rather than have a freaking ac unit chiller consuming craptons of power with negligable oc benifits since phase is the way to go for core oc and i dont have any experience nor the equipment neccesary to work on these ac systems if that isnt obvious already

Fridge just because for whatever reason (prob hygene or something) used fridges tend to not sell well and i can get one for <40$ pretty easily

Damn, and gpus have how many of those damn chips again? Like 8? 16? Yea thats alotta power, i thought they were gonna be relatively easy to cool but apparently not, though with the amount of liquid id need to submerge a damn fridge evap to make a chiller itd prob not matter due to the thermal mass of the craploads of antifreeze so spike in power draw wont matter, maybe full load but again crap tons of thermal mass to heat up

I only recently figured out thats the reason why res are reccomended for custom loops, more thermal mass = more time it takes to heat up and cool down so basically like a regulator and why i see some posts about absurd temp spikes on load with even a 360 aio. Guess its like a flywheel on a car, though i wonder if less thermal mass has any benifit here cause lighter flywheel = faster acceleration but more deceleration when letting off the throttle

thing to note is it dose not show you the d5 pump and only a pump cover and they do sell a no name d5 pump. no idea how good it is thow

for water blocks the clear can crack over time (even the ek will crack) but the black plastic wont.

imo i would pay more to get compression fittings vs barbs and it looks nicer way easier to attach.

dont get fittings that dont have a round id there some that can use a alankey to attach em they will bottle neck the flow.

you need and wall thick ness of 1/8 and not the 1/16.

You have some examples?

Its really confusing with US and EU units of measurement
