Mac Pro is a good example of a workstation.

Personally I define a workstation PC as whatever has the ability to efficiently and reliably run the programs I need to work.

When you buy expensive stuffs to put in it that are well optimized for workstation stuffs. Like buying a I7 over an I5, because if you're not using a workstation there's literally no reason to own an I7

Mine became a workstation when I started leaving it on 24/7. I was turning it on and off way too many times.

Pretty much anything in an office being used for work. whether is a low end Celeron doing word processing or server farms rendering 3d animations or whatever the fuck.
