Yup.

Z390 launched with the 9900K. So even the initial BIOS should be compatible.

Edit:

That said, it's still probably best to sell the 9900K as new in box. You can get a good price for it. Then you can buy a CPU that's compatible with your existing board that is both better and cheaper than the 9900K, and pocket the difference. Like a 5600X.

Dear Forum

I need some help picking a motherboard.
My employer was about to throw out a i9 9900k, unbroken seal and everything. I realized it's better than my ryzen 5 3600. So I decided to upgrade a little.

I have Corsair CMU64GX4M4C3000C15 4x16GB [64 GB] RAM 3000 MHz

an RTX 3070 [don't remember the specs, but it's pretty standard in size and air cooling]

I have a large compatible liquid Kraken CPU Cooler and a 850w (silver rated?) power supply.

All I need is a motherboard which can fit it all. And I'm completely clueless, as it's an older CPU.

(A plus is if it has more than one m.2 NVMe slot)

Kind regards
Patrick

Thank you, but I'm not interested in selling.
I play a lot of CPU - bound games, and the i9900k is a clear upgrade for me.

The motherboards I've been looking at aren't expensive, I'm just not sure they fit with the rest of my components.

Without looking at pricing, I also think it is probably easier to sell the 9900k and later your 3600, and drop a 5800X into your existing system.

Look up the mobo page on Asus' web site. It should list which bios versions support which CPUs. I think Z390 was released the same time as Coffee Lake refresh CPUs (9th gen) so they should work without getting into a mess of needing to upgrade before using it. For that reason, avoid the Z370 which came out earlier and would have more complications in having a new enough bios.
