ryzen memory performance

32gb DDR4 4000 CL14 memory has not been in stock the entire year. i see 16gb DDR4 4000 CL14 and 32gb DDR4 3800 CL14. what do you guys think would be the better buy for the 5950x? the 16gb single rank with higher frequency/FLCK or the 32gb dual rank with lower frequency/FLCK?

3600mhz cl16 or lower. Ryzen does best running 1 to 1 with the flck. Unless you know your cpu can do 1900 or 2000 flck then you should get the higher end kit.

id get viper steel 3600 c14-14-14 as ryzen mostly cant go to higher ram speeds and the fclk would match with 3600, 3800 or 3733 and everything inbetween

    10700k 5ghz All core 47 ring ratio 1.275v
  • Motherboard
    MSI Z590 A Pro

Ram really doesnt matter that much, just buy some 3200 cl16 or 3600 cl18 and be done with it, any other bins (excl bdie bins) are overpriced trash that ballistix will annihilate so dont bother with stuff like trash 3600 cl16 (16-18-18/19-19) unless were talking the bdie 3600 cl16 (16-16-16) but 3200 cl14 is usually cheaper anyways

if you want best ram performance then go 4x8 ballistix 3200 or crucial/micron 2666 bare pcb for dual rank and steal an oc profile off the internet like this one and just plug and play, 95% of ram oc benifits w/o most of the hassle. Next tier up from micron ics would be samsung bdie but those are expensive asf, cheapest decent bin of bdie is either 3200 cl14 or 4400 cl19 (19-19-19), not worth it at all. If you just wanna plug and play w/o tuning then just get 3600 cl18 which will be adequate enough

You could also f around with outspeeding the fclk penalty but that requires running close to 5000mhz which is prob gonna be a pain to tune while not giving much performance, aka dont bother unless you are doing it for fun
