Weird issue with RX6700XT

Go to solution Solved by Action_Johnson,

Download the latest optional GPU drivers from AMD, the newest B550 drivers from MSI, and DDU from Guru3D.

Disconnect your internet and run DDU, reboot.

Install your GPU drivers, reboot.

Install your chipset drivers, reboot.

plug your internet in, and you should be golden.

On my 6700XT (reference), I can run almost everything short of CP2077 and RDR2 maxed out at 1440p with no problems. And my home rig is almost a carbon copy of what you're running.

I did do a slight undervolt though because the reference cooler might look cool, but it's not awesome.

That hissing is called coil whine, it's extremely common in GPU's. My GeForce 5200 Ultra did it, my GTX 670 did it, so does my 5700XT in my office workstation.

Hello guys,

today, I received new ASRock challenger D RX6700XT and been having some issues. Firstly there is this weird sound (i don't know how to describe it, somtehing like hissing or electrical buzzing?). Secondly, its performance is somewhat poor, I had around 75 FPS in SOTTR, I saw that gamers nexus had around 120. But what is suprising for me is that i had over 150 FPS in Apex Legends - the same as in a particular benchmark (dont remember which one) but I experienced some weird stutters, it looked as if my screen froze for fraction of a second.

What i tried to do:
  -> Reinstall drivers - multiple times
  -> Two cables instead of one (GPU power connectors)

My pc:
  -> GPU: ASRock Radeon RX 6700 XT D 12GB OC 12 GB
  -> CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
  -> MoBo: MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS
  -> PSU: Corsair RM850X
  -> RAM: Patriot Viper Steel, DDR4, 32 GB, 3200MHz, CL16
  -> SSD: Samsung 980 500GB M.2 PCIe NVMe
  -> Case: be quiet! Pure Base 500 DX
  -> Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock 4

Thanks for help!

Sorry for not replaying, I was testing if it wasn't one time solution, but I have to say, I am golden. Everything works as it should be working, so BIG THANKS to you. I still have a little stutters in Apex, but now it looks like something is loading in the backgournd becasue any stuttering is gone after 30 seconds or so.

Do you have any advice for lowering FPS in menus? When I load Apex, FPS counter goes up to 2500 so my GPU starts screaming for a few seconds.

Rad! And yeah it's probably loading stuff in the BG.

Turn on Radeon Chill in the driver menu under Gaming. I use it all the time to avoid exactly that. No reason to blast 2000fps in a menu, let alone on a monitor that can't support it anyway.

Unfortunately, it does not work for me during loading. I do not have a clue why that is happening, but I think I will leave it as it is. I have checked with HWiNFO and have not seen power consumption skyrocketing or anything else suspicious. I guess it is safe not to do anything about it.

Thanks for the help, I think I will mark your initial reply as a solution after a few days.

For everyone: I have found the solution for my problem with FPSs skyrocketing during loading.

In Radeon Software under Gaming > Global Graphics > Advanced, there is an option called "Frame Rate Target Control". All I needed to do was to turn it on and set the upper limit for FPSs.

FRTC may cause input lag if you play completive games. If the game supports frame rate limit/cap then use that rather than a driver limiter. Radeon Chill or perhaps Enhanced Sync might also help limit extreme FPS as well as VSYNC, coil whine will also be less. AMD FreeSync™ Technology Recommended Settings | AMD
