Noise cancelling question

mine are the 2017 model. And I can't turn them on when the cord is connected, they turn off as soon as I plug in the audio cable. So if the battery is empty, I won't have noise cancelling? It's not too much of a loss however since 2017 noise cancelling sucks compared to 2021 noise cancelling which I found out 2 weeks ago when I tried on my mums headphones that are a 2021 model

My Sony WH-1000XM2 were also released in 2017, and when you plug the cable in, you can turn them on afterwards for noise cancellation. And yes, the batery slowly empties.

Hello LTT forum

I recently looked up the technical details of my Sony WH-CH 700N's and found out that they operate like normal corded headphones when using the audio cable meaning they won't use their battery. My question is: will they still have noise cancelling available? Beause the energy required for it would have to be pulled from the phones headphone jack. Also just to be sure: is it safe to use them in bluetooth mode on an airplane?

Kind regards DreamCat04

If they are like any Sony ANC headphones made in the last years they function like this:

If you use them wired, but don't turn them on, they function like normal headphones, no ANC, because no power.

If you have the battery charged, you can connect the cord, and THEN turn the headphones on. Audio comes from phone, power for the ANC comes from the headphone battery.

Yes, it is safe to use them in bluetooth mode on a modern airplane, just follow the instructions on your specific plane.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

  • 2 years later...

I don't know why I couldn't turn them on with the audio cable connected before but I can now, I replaced them with the XM5's about one and a half years ago and I'm now just using them as home-office headphones since they don't require fiddling around for 10 minutes to stay comfortable for a few hours. My XM5's have to be in a pretty precise position in order for my the skin on my head not to go numb and hurt where the bar touches it
