Which gpu to get? 6800xt/rtx 3080

Badpcman

Hello, at the moment where I am a rx 6800xt is 700$ more or less and a rtx 3080 is 750+ and I play on 1440p with my rtx 2060, now I am looking at the benchmarks and they are decent more in the favour of the rx6800xt because I do not prefer using raytracing I am mostly looking for 144 fps at 1440p. I have a 650W psu and am looking to get a ryzen 9 5600x. Now I am not sure what the wattage will be so I have come here to get consultation for it.

3080 10gb or 12gb?

Edit: get the 6800 XT. AMD is much more efficient and I don't know if 650w would be enough for a 3080 and Ryzen 9 (if you meant the Ryzen 5 5600X that should be fine)

upgrade the psu to 1000 watt 3080 is a good card but not sure about its TDP

I'd get the 3080, performance is similar but you get NVidia features DLSS/RT

Power consumption is 320W max (unless OCed) to 300W for the 6800XT so not really different; your 650W PSU should hold it with a midrange CPU having PPT under 100W unless it's a crappy brand/model

And 10GB VRAM is enough for anything currently, you won't have no issue at 1440p

System : AMD R9 5900X / Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO/ 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance 3600CL18 ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Eisbaer 280mm AIO (with 2xArctic P14 fans) / 2TB Crucial T500  NVme + 2TB WD SN850 NVme + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD drives/ Corsair RM850x PSU/  Alienware AW3420DW 34" 120Hz 3440x1440p monitor / Logitech G915TKL keyboard (wireless) / Logitech G PRO X Superlight mouse / Audeze Maxwell headphones

Yeah I was thinking that as well, although I might actually opt for the 5 5600x the wattage is almost 40% better than the ryzen 9 I've been looking at some benchmarks, the current price for a 3080 is around 750-800 euros and the 6800xt is 700 as of now. If I manage to get a 6800xt I am planning on sneaking in a ryzen 9 but depends on how much money I have left over, I might save the 200 euros ish from the ryzen 9 with a ryzen 5 which might get me a better psu down the road since as of now I do not have much money on hand.

As I mentioned I am not really bothered by raytracing and dlss. In a 6 games average that were tested at 1440p the 6800xt was on par with 3080ti in performance which I would rather take and it has better wattage.

Are you sure you didn't compare 6900X and 3080Ti ?

Cause average relative performance on TechPowerup is 6800XT 100% - 3080 103% - 6900XT 109%- and 3080Ti 115%, so unless at 1080p (where the AMD cards perform best) the 6800XT should be a tad behind the 3080

Well unless this video has got the wrong information I am not sure, well I am probably not as well educated but as soon as I saw good numbers I went ape on it

Also would it be a bottleneck for a 6800xt/3080 if I were to use a ryzen 7 2700?

Nah indeed the 6800XT is a tad faster than the 3080 (non Ti) at 1440p

At 1080p definitely, but I think it'll not be that bad at 1440p, you may lose 10% performance only

If you have SotTR the ingame benchmark is very useful to detect bottlenecks

Understandable, thanks for that
