Gaming PC $3500 AUD - Advice

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming - (Heavily modded Minecraft (maybe with shaders? )), and possible newer titles Cyberpunk 2077 and Microsoft Flight Sim at around ~144-165fps 1440p

 

Hey guys,

I am looking to build a gaming pc but I feel I need some guidance regarding the parts I have chosen as it is my first time.

I am going for a primarily white build with either white or blue lighting

My budget currently is $3500 AUD but I am willing to spend more if need arises

Feel obliged to critique the components below and suggest improvements/optimisations

1. 6900XT is worth the extra $100 if you only care for raw performance, but you'll lose NVidia software/DLSS/RT

Can't you get a 3080 for the price of the 6900XT ? it'll settle the issue

2. YES you overspend !! All Z690 boards are good VRM wise, sure you get fancy features with an hi end board but you'll have the same performance with a $350 board like the Gigabyte Elite or MSI Tomahawk

3./4. Components are fine, the thing I'd like less is the case but you seem to really want it ... It's an ok case but quite mid range and your rather hi end build could use something more premium - Corsair 5000, Lian Li O11, Fractal Torrent... Or a nice ITX case like Phanteks Evolv Shift!

5. It's ok but a bit on the weak side esp. with a 12th gen Intel K skew, I'd get the 1000W version, not much more expensive

Just wanna add on that if you currently do have a PC thats you would be comfortable based on the current roadmap for Nvidia GPUs, and past release dates, its belived that the 4000 series GPUs will release this fall (August, September, October for the 4090,4080, and 4070) and with the massive drop in crypto prices and some coins completely falling apart most speculate that we will see much fairer prices with this launch compared with the 3000 series.

Nah, probably not. I don't have the best cooling in my house and I live in Australia and I'm not in the market for a space heater atm.

So you wont overclock because of cooling concerns? You can get a good cooler and do some light overclocking without concerns.

If you are not going to over clock at all then you should get an F CPU with good b660 mobo.

For the GPU as said above you can wait if you are not in a rush because the 4000 series on the way means cheaper and better performance

Yeah true, Its probably beneficial if I overclock at least to some degree so I can get more out of the build, I've also heard a few people talk about the 4000 series so I'll probably just hold out until they release, also thanks for the recommendation

2. Yes, but if you want the white aesthetic it's about the only reasonable choice.

Consider going with a locked i7-12700F. With good cooling and liberal power limits performance is very close to its unlocked sibling.

 

I have included the RX 6900 XT despite its clashing colour scheme.  For higher resolution gaming the added performance will make a difference compared to the RTX 3070 Ti. The current price is very good by today's standards.

 

The white PSU while it is hidden comes with white cables for a more harmonious appearance.

I was on here yesterday asking for advice on improvements for my 1st PC I am planning to build, thanks to everyone who responded 

I have made changes to the list following your advice and was wondering if the build was good

Planning on a primarily white build with the lighting set to either light blue or white (Feel free to suggest parts that go against this)

I still have a few questions which I'll leave below the list.

• I'm not overclocking but am heavily considering it

This is just my opinion, so long as you're having fun and done your research you do you.

 

I would swap out the aio cpu cooler for a fan cooler.

 

Start with 16gb ram and 1tb m.2 and put that money to a better CPU. I'm not up to date with Intel's CPUs.

 

I think 1000w PSU is overboard.unless you're planning to expand the PC a lot, I reckon go do a PC wattage calculator, I think PC part picker even estimates it. And add 150 to whatever they say. Money saved on PSU can also go to CPU.

 

I think gpu choice is fine

 

If you're down to be buying a gpu, I wouldn't worry about integrated graphics (though it was torture when the only thing left to get was the GPU and I had the whole pc set up haha)

 

For the uses you've listed, i don't think overclocking should be on your radar and as far as I can tell overclocking is just for the fun of it, overclocking to get increased performance for long periods of time I believe just wears things down and makes a lot of heat for not a lot of noticeable differences in gaming.

 

There is a lot of information out there. And it can be hard to get it all to mesh together. But I would certainly start with looking up good CPU and GPU pairings.

 

Also I'm a slut for fractal design cases and the meshify c is getting cheap and it's sexy and awesome airflow

Yes its good just a personal preference I would say, for me I would go with the 3080 12gb .

1000W PSU a good one or Phanteks or NZXT.

I don't think you will need much to pay over your budget to get something to over clock
