What cpu should i pair with my 1660

Hello.

I am looking to upgrade my pc and i am looking for the best CPU to pair with the 1660 (Preferably under 350$)

I am currently running on a i5 7400 (Yes bad i know)

I am also running on 8 gb of ram but that i am upgrading to 16 gb so i dont really need help for that

 

Its also very annoying that I cant play games without stable fps (Like literally everything) but I hope you can help me

get a B550 with ryzen 5 5600X

Is the RAM you have at least in dual channel? (2x4GB sticks) What speed is it?

12400 + B660 or 5600(X) + B550 would be good. Intel has better upgradeability and is usually the cheaper option so I recommend that, but Ryzen will perform similar so if it's cheaper that might be worth it.

 

Edit: seems like 12400F just dropped in price, that's the best you can get.
