Custom Computer Desk Case Build - Sit Stand

cstrachn

Couple coats of polycrylic. Maybe one more sanding and another final coat. Then i need to let it cure for a day. it's pretty hot here so it should dry\cure fast.

Only issue was left drawer was sticking. to much paint build up. So i sanded it back down. May sand it even more and repaint or find a black stain i can use on the edges.

Well before bringing the desk inside to start on final assembly I wanted to check the glass fit one last time.

And it didn't fit 😞

So I pulled out all the wood removal tools and made it fit.

20220628_104928.thumb.jpg.c39b654c7f2111e1c51fc9f0999787be.jpg

Used a black touch up paint pen to fix my mistake

20220628_105137.thumb.jpg.d429d238e606e0cf544c8d9f17c3a1c4.jpg

Added some foam padding for the glass to rest on

20220628_105347.thumb.jpg.ba17cf90ddc60bc8466acf8d991e0141.jpg

Test fit the glass. and it fits!

Extended a sata output and added sata, floppy, hdd style power connectors. These will go to Fan hub, Lift control and front IO (usb panel)

Finalized on the lift controls wiring.

Drilled hole in bottom of desk. not visible from sitting/standing position so it should be fine.

Now on to some cable management. 3D printing out some wire guides. This one is just wide enough to fit between the front of desk and motherboard. So i can run power. sata, fans, cpu and front panel power/data. There are holes in top of fingers to run zip ties through, if i need to hold them down.

example wires, actual guides

20220705_123748.thumb.jpg.161468f1f3a8d7d910742a59764c1733.jpg

Printing next set. I may make several variations to accommodate front and rear of desk. So many cables. 😞

p.s. i have 4 pin ribbon cable coming so i can extend all the rear fan and ARGB wires. should be able to move the FAN/ARGB hub under the video card bracket and out of the way.

Well this may work out. 3D printed a handful of wire guides. Should make this look cleaner inside.

Need to print a lot more

Little more wire management testing

20220706_125435.thumb.jpg.cfaadbcce85f7f8ec994f0ff1e588a0a.jpg

Extended the rear fan and RGB cables so i can hide them better.

Only to commit the cardinal sin of not pretesting before zip tying 😞

One fan is not spinning

20220707_210705.thumb.jpg.418b75a236dbd30997b8ad5d671c90b1.jpg

Time to rip it all back out

And installed the modified under desk box. I will shove my 5 port router in there. My server is on the wall above my desk and i have another pc in the room. So i needed the switch

Finished gluing and wiring the hdd and sdd RGB brackets.

Solder the 3rd pin so i dont plug them in wrong. picked up a ton of these 4 pin cable extenders. No one had the 4 pin with a blocked pin anywhere. At least not cheap.

And a shot of the power button lit up. I did make a little mess on the plexiglass when putting this in. But i think it is fine.

Went to install the monitor mount and saw that the bracket was going to be in the way of the rear IO panel 😞

20220710_105355.thumb.jpg.acea18bca93ce1992066ae38675ef451.jpg

So i removed the mount parts and just attached directly to the desk. Feels solid enough. The monitor doesn't weigh too much

Tested PUBG on ultimate @2k res and was hitting 165FPS before the whole thing turned off. Guess it burnt open the power connection on the rear. Maybe internal fuse? I had to bypass it and order another AC panel mount to fix this.

20220710_133812.thumb.jpg.50d45f12766680c364b5cc4cba99f8bc.jpg

Hit 550W? not bad. i was expecting more.

20220710_140515.thumb.jpg.1ea8aa36cdf38828c53a0dbd5bfe9303.jpg

But minus that little issue everything is up and running and super fast. RGB does make the pc faster 😉

Just installed the glass top. Need to clear out the old desk and move this beast into it's new home.

I will try and get some nice full size shot sof it once in place. And possibly some showcase video of it running.

p.s. Every RGB software package out there is terrible!. At least i can address the LEDs from the MSI mystic software. SingalRGB only sees them as one LED. if i can figure that part out i may use that. Since Mystic cant see the video card and memory. OpenRGB....well it sees most of the devices. just couldn't get it to work right. I'll keep playing. something is bound to do all devices and all LED's

Some added photos of the rear. Placed 8 port gigabit switch in the rear box. Forgot the monitor had a power brick. so i just double side sticky taped it under the rear box.

Wire management trays came in handy.

  • 3 months later...

4 months in. So far so good. Had small issue with network coming in and out. thought it was thee connector. turned out windows needed DNS timeout entries in registry. Now i don't have any connection issues.

Just did a slight upgrade. Added anther 32GB ram. 64GB total now.

Next i think i will upgrade with PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe 1TB? maybe 2TB. and move my OS to it. SSD is fast but nvme! PCIe gen 4! so fast. so defiantly my next purchase or this beast.20221109_174550.thumb.jpg.919c355d2b918d3194fbe659ba78dfe4.jpg

  • 5 months later...

P.s. anyone following I did upgrade to a 2TB nvme drive. took a bit to transfer over my os but it fired right up. now I have a extra 1tb SSD. backup OS for now while I run this new drive. I think I'm safe to wipe it for extra storage.

And i added 2 more monitors. older 1080p ones. i have 2 - 4k 27" ones coming in and i got 2 more monitor mounts. So i will need to bolt 2 more mounting brackets on the back. Should be fun. i may have some wood left over. Gives me 3 27" monitors. center one is 144hz.

  • 4 weeks later...

Well i switched jobs, twice. once during the end of this build i was laid off. Found a decent local job with some friends. Then i had another company reach out to do some remote programming work. So i'm back at home using this beast of a desk.

and...they just sent me 2 27" 4k monitors. Sooo. to clean things up a bit im adding two more monitor arms to the desk!

20230513_153029.thumb.jpg.b3a0636e8ae4601eecfca2253dd6ee67.jpg

Not the best 4k monitors. but hey why not. i had 2 1080p dells i was using. this is an upgrade for me. Center monitor is still my main gaming 2k 144hz.
