Hello all,

As we all know, GPU prices have been dropping steadily over the last few months from December - April.

However, it seems like in the past month, here in Europe, GPU prices have been flat. The price drop has seemed to stagnate.

  • Cheapest RTX 3080 has been 1000 EUR for a whole month (15 april - 15 may)
  • Cheapest RTX 3070 has been 749 EUR for a whole month
  • Cheapest RTX 3060 has been 479 EUR for a whole month.

The weeks / months prior from December --> April, there were pricedrops every day / week.

Have we reached the bottom of what these cards will go for, for now? It seems like it. It seems like the GPU manufacturers / retailers are reluctant to drop prices further. Or perhaps the GPU's are just selling well at the current prices. Personally, I still think they are way overpriced. Especially with these GPU's being 2 years old almost, I would not buy at the current prices. Perhaps the best you can hope for is a good deal on a used (mining) GPU. But at the same time, used prices have been tracking new prices, so used prices are still inflated as well.

What are your thoughts?

Well believe it or not none of us are time travelers from the future so any form of prediction will be a 100% "best guess" from anyone.

My pretend guess is by july these cards will be pretty cheap all things considered.

Hey least you didn't do what I did and buy a 6800xt for 1400$ from microcenter only to have a 6900xt offered 5 months later for 950$

could be different for eu, but the 3080's been at 800usd for the US, granted there's pent up demand and prices below msrp will come as next gen launches. Most of the drop is already done.

We haven't reached the bottom imo IF there isn't a similar supply chain issue with the 40 series cards when they launch later this year, but in the short term its anyone's guess. I'd be willing to bet that prices may not be dropping in EU because of the price of the EURO is getting closer to the dollar.

Did you seek therapy for this truama? I know I would've looked for help after paying $1400 for a 6800 XT, lol.  Also side question, why didn't you grab the 6900 XT? I know back then they were going for like $1600.

And to get back on topic, I think GPU prices have hit a wall for now, but might go down again in June. Then folks might go back to panic buying with the announcement of the new cards in July/August, so prices get crazy again. We're in such a sensitive time when it comes to GPUs, haha.

I've been looking at GPU prices in the EU for the last month and I've noticed the same. My guess is that inflation (which is hitting Europe more than other markets, like the US) is making the retailers keep the high prices. After all, it's not like supplier issues are completely gone already, so demand is still much higher than supply, at least for most cards.

Plus (and this is very hypothetical but I've seen worse things...), my tin-foil hat is telling me that the prices aren't going down due to the successive delays in the Intel ARC GPU launch. I think they deliberately keep the prices high to hold off on what is inevitably going be a massive drop when the competitors hit the market.

Personally - since I work for my money - I'm holding off for another month or 2. I want the card I buy to last me as much as my trusted R9 270x did (8 frikken years of perfect gameplay at 1080p....), and I don't want to see myself in the same situation as above, so I want to make sure I read the market as I should, keep doing my research as to which card I'll eventually buy (that also depends on the prices, cause if they drop enough I'll get the 3060 TI instead of the 3060, no-brainer), and to a reasonable extent wait for the ARC launch.

As for predictions: I wouldn't bet on prices coming down more than max €40 (for a mid-tier card) or €100 (for top-tier) for highly sought-after cards. At least not before the ARC launch.

Man,... for something which was praised as the salvation of the GPU space, Intel is really screwing everything up, IMO...
