What happens to WiFi 6 when the router is set only as an access point or in bridge mode?

Yes it will still work as an wifi 6 access point, but without the routing function.

I am planning to upgrade my home network to WiFi 6, as most of my devices already supports WiFi 6, and I frequently transfer large files within my WiFi network, and also frequently remote into my PC via Parsec.

I am planning to get either the TP-Link AX23 or AX10, and I'll set them only as a WiFi access point.

Question:

  • Would WiFi 6 still work or effective when the router is in bridge mode or set as an access point?

It all depends on how you connect to the main router, if it's over a wireless backhaul then it could be less reliable as compared to a wired backhaul but that's about it, it will still work fine and just be an extension of the main network in AP mode.

Wi-Fi 6 is about the wireless link, so as long as you're using that you get its benefits.

Note that Wi-Fi 6 is mostly about better handling multiple concurrent wireless devices rather than faster speeds to a single device.
