Tips for cloning HDD

I'm attempting to clone a PS3 HDD, you'll probably say to just use a flash drive and restore software, I would but I'm not really wanting to look for a old official PS3 controller in order to get past the recovery menu, yes it's a super annoying thing the PS3 does. Although I almost managed to clone it correctly I'm running into a issue where half of the space is left unallocated as much as I tried merging it to the finished cloned drive it wont allow me to. I'm hoping there might be some people out there who has came across issues like this, I'm using AOMEI as a tool, or if someone can recommend other software that might do it. I'm going from a 500GB to a 1TB so I'm assuming it's cloning it exactly from the 500GB and not automatically adjusting it's cluster size. It might just be a simple option on my end that I'm not setting up right, never done this before so would appreciate advice. =)
