Ive had my gaming rig for a while now and an issue started occurring where my whole computer would turn of instantly, motherboard and ram lights stay illuminated and the pc wont turn on again unless I flip it completely off from the wall and then back on. I think this may be an overheating issue but after checking with Hardware monitor I was not able to notice anything that went over 85 degrees under load.

Also my choice for likeliest possible culprit.  Might also do to refresh the OS.  One of those things that is cheap and easy, and might even help.  Not a strong chance, but it’s outside possible you’ve got a corrupted file somewhere.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Im assuming it has something to do with the chipset under the onboardfan, its placed like directly inline with the gpu and I think its pretty much overlapping with a fat 3070.

Highly unlikely. The chipset doesn't actually get that hot, only when you're doing a ton of data transfer through it, so large file copies on NVMe drives connected through the chipset. It gets hot enough that it needs a fan during file transfers, but on most boards it actually doesn't need the chipset fan running. It is worth checking in something like HWiNFO64, but I doubt it's the culprit. Also don't use HWMonitor, it's been known to misreport temps on occasion.

Motherboard is a x570 Asus Prime

Which one, they made like 3 different X570 boards called "Prime"? Prime-Pro? Prime-P? which one specifically?

I don’t think it’s the problem, but if you really think the thing is being heated externally to the point it is causing problems (which I doubt) you could use a heat shield to test it. Aluminum foil makes a great heat shield. It’s also conductive of course, so an amount of care must be taken.  If you don’t have any you could buy a pack of chewing gum.  The silver side of the gum wrapper is aluminum foil and the paper side makes a decent non conductive surface (wood is not a good conductor of electricity) you can even use old wads of gum to stick the thing in place.  Chewing gum is also a lousy conductor.  If it DOES actually turn out to be the problem you can get a vaned heat sink for the chip.  If you happen to have one lying around that is also an option instead of the chewing gum.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Does this help?

There are two newer bioses for that board.

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-Components/Motherboards/PRIME/PRIME-X570-PRO/HelpDesk_BIOS/

I have a similar system (5900X + Prime X570-P + 32GB + RX 5700XT that covers the fan). Besides Asus having the fan curves of that chipset fan all wrong (annoyingly loud often), everything works, so the chipset fan probably isn't the cause of the issue.

Do you use Asus Armory Crate?

Do you use 1 piggy tail cable to power the GPU or two separate cables?

Im using two separate cables to power my gpu. Not using armory crate but should I?. It happens randomly, I could be playing ark in 1440p max settings or playing muck on all low settings and it would just randomly happen. I have an external fan blowing into my intake which seems to prevent it but its hard to tell.

That's good, always betetr to use separate cables if you can.

No, Armory crate is a known cause for issues.

Are you running HWMonitor as an administrator to see all the temperatures?

Windows updated?

Since you didn't have the latest bios, have you flashed the latest in the meantime?

Does the system crash during stability testing (CPU - Prime 95 Small FTT, GPU - Unigine Heaven looping)?

How high do the temps reach during stability testing?

I’m not a fan of armory crate, or really any extra unneeded junk. If it fixes the issue it isn’t unneeded junk though.

Re: update

it’s about rewriting the code not updating it.  Stuff gets corrupted sometimes. it’s why the refresh option exists.  I don’t know if update will rewrite  things like old registries or not.  If it only does it under some circumstances it’s got to be software.
