Portable HDD's "The parameter is incorrect." error

So my hard drive was completely fine until I used in on an another pc. Well I didn't use it for about 6 months and then I tried it on my friends pc but it didn't open and gave me the "Parameter is incorrect" error. I tried googling it found and app which I dont remember the name of. And after it "unpacked" or something the app didnt respond and I didnt try again. In short I don't know what to do... I don't even need to save the files just need to see what's in it.
