Ok so I’m trying to fix a laptop with a bad bios it’s a maingear element. I opened it up and it has a bios lockdown and a normal operation but can’t tell if there’s anything to help with reflashing the bios from a usb.
is there anything I need to do to get it to grab the bios I have downloaded or am I just screwed and need to take it to the manufacture

You're 100% SURE it's a bad bios??

Which MG element.... might make it easier. But I'll have a guess; Element 2...

The manual for element 2 has bios recovery instructions.

These are located on Page 19 as well as explanation of the bios jumper.

So F2 is bios setup.

And F4 is bios recovery.

The bios recovery file is EFI\INTEL\QCCFL357.CAP

Here's the PDF. ** Windows recovery is page 22.

Could also try Intel's method also.

BIOS Update and Recovery Instructions for Intel® NUC Laptop Kits with the Aptio® V UEFI Firmware BIOS Core

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000056678/intel-nuc/intel-nuc-laptop-kits.html

Or lastly, the programmer as you're searching for now.

NOTE: All the above is for Element 2.

If you updated BIOS from the manufacturer, and it still has a warranty on it, it will be covered. And if they try to tell you that a failed BIOS flash is not covered, you stand your ground and tell them that they are responsible for pushing a faulty product and they are responsible for fixing their mistake.

(I know it sounds kinda dickish, but this is one of the reasons warranties exist; for manufacturer faults)
