hi there, i built a computer for my niece with a Gigabyte A320M SH2 V2 and it started all good, she has just installed some games and for some reason we cant get any audio on any 3.5 port, it does show that the little green bars are moving when i click on the speakers icon on the right lower corner so i guess it is sending somewhat of a signal, but it doesnt produce any sound

We have already tried updating drivers, the speakers are connected and with a usb device we can get audio but not with 3.5... Any idea?

Well if you are 100% sure you connected the right ports and all I'd say the onboard sound card is fried.

Luckily this can be fixed easily with either an external or pcie sound card.

Have you tried a different 3.5mm device to verify that the speakers aren't the problem? Try a known-good working set of headphones.

Yes because they have their own build in audio chips. You see, USB is digital but the headphones (or speakers) need an analog signal at some point. For the 3.5mm jack the onboard audio does the converting (with a DAC -> digital to analog converter) while with USB the processing has to be done somewhere in between the actual drivers and the port. It's usually inside the little in-cable-remotes.

Right click the speaker icon instead of left click. The first large panel in Win11 is labelled "Output", I think Win10 is similar. Ensure that "Speakers" from your motherboard is selected. Sometimes HDMI or a different output will be selected stopping the sound from being sent to the desired output source.
