Transporting a PC by car with a GPU inside

A coworker bought my old PC with the following components:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor  (Purchased For $264.99)
  • Motherboard: MSI H170 Gaming M3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  (Purchased For $159.99)
  • Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 CL14 Memory  (Purchased For $74.99)
  • Storage: SanDisk SSD PLUS 480 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (Purchased For $129.99)
  • Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290X 8 GB Vapor-X Video Card
  • Case: Zalman Z11 NEO ATX Mid Tower Case  (Purchased For $89.99)
  • Power Supply: EVGA G1 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply  (Purchased For $106.02)
  • Optical Drive: LG UH12NS40 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer  (Purchased For $0.00)
  • Case Fan: Corsair AF120 Quiet 39.88 CFM 120 mm Fan  (Purchased For $14.99)
  • Case Fan: Corsair ML120 Pro 75 CFM 120 mm Fan  (Purchased For $0.00)

The PC is built, but I'm debating whether I should take out the GPU or not (he's not tech-savvy at all).

Would putting the PC on its side (mobo facing up) help transporting it by car?

Laying it on it's side with a seatbelt should be enough to hold it down safe and secure until it reaches the location.

Too cheap, or too expensive?

agree, $500 sounds like a reasonable price for this.

I actually have an old desktop PC in my campervan (7700+GTX1080), i told myself that it needed replacing anyway so i'd just use it in the campervan until it died.  Two years now it's still going, just sitting in a normal desk PC cavity with a piece of high density foam on each side to stop it moving around lol

As others have said though, just lay it down on a blanket or something thick/soft that'll absorb most of the road vibrations, you'll be totally fine.
