Configure IIS to Listen to HTTPS

You didnt set bindings for https, did you?

I have a dedicated WIndows Server 2019 machine and I want to host websites on it.

Setting up websites itself is easy, but they need to have SSL certificates. I followed this guide to install a SSL cert: https://satvasolutions.com/how-to-install-free-ssl-certificate-from-lets-encrypt-on-iis-web-server/

The test finishes successfully without errors, the certificate is active, but I cannot access my website using https. The domain is pointed to the Host IP with an A Record.

In IIS, when I select the SSL Settings, I cannot enable SSL as I'm prompted with an alert, saying: The site does not have a secure binding (HTTPS) and cannot accept SSL connections.

In the past I always managed my websites using Control Panels on shared hosting which was straightforward. Now, as I already have a dedicated machine for other tasks, I'd also use it to host some sites.

I could have used XAMPP, which is simpler to setup, but I had negative experiences with it in the past (websites crashing, services stopping etc.).

On another note, as I'm already opening a topic, I cannot access the wordpress installer. Installing Wordpress, or any other web application, has always been as simple as extracting the files to your web server, access the installation script by URL and install as instructed. However, I am for some reason getting Error 500 when accessing my domain name and Error 404 when I enter the exact path to the install script.

IIS has always been a pain in the butt to set up, but I'd prefer to use IIS over XAMPP.

Yep, that was it 😄

HTTPS now works. Now I just need to figure out why I can't install any software.

What I forgot to mention in my initial post is that I also tried Web Platform Installer 5.1, but it freezes during the installation process. Let it running overnight and it didn't move an inch.

EDIT: It's probably because I don't (seem to) have PHP installed. Will install that first and see how it goes.

EDITv2: Installing PHP resolved error 500
