Hi there!

As you can tell by the title, I'm looking for a new (windows) laptop and I could use some suggestions.

I'm coming from a MacBook Pro (13 inch, mid 2017) and it's starting to show it's age with the 7th gen core i5 in it along with only 8 gigs of ram and 256 gigs of storage (which I could upgrade but I don't see it being worth it at this point) aswell as some minor scratches and a very annoying dent on a corner of the screen casing. Since I am coming from a MacBook, I really don't want to compromise on build quality. I am currently a high school student deeply involved in the technology department at my school as well as a moderate gamer (some csgo, forza horizon, etc) so I'm hoping to get something that can handle what I might throw at it. I was able to go to a Best Buy to look around and came across a laptop similar to this with slightly lower specs (though I'd prefer the one in the link instead). The build quality seemed very good (at least for a dell) and wasn't so huge that I wouldn't be able to fit it in a backpack. I don't know what would be better when it comes to Intel or AMD and I would strongly prefer for it to be under or at $1,000 USD.

Any responses/suggestions appreciated!

I know it's a spicy take in the community, but I recommend HP based on the warranty support and what few issues I've had, were resolved very quickly and easily. Currently they're running sales, and offer student discounts, so a Pavilion Gaming would be something I might recommend for under $1k, and you can customize out the acid green lighting so it doesn't scream MTN Dew gamer vibes.

I did see some pretty decent looking HP laptops at Best Buy aswell. I will look into HP, thank you!

Customer support is great at all tech levels and treat you with complete respect and are endlessly patient. Also stand by their warranties.

Chose one:

- you stay under $1000

- you have no compromises on Build quality

A Pavillion Gaming Laptop is at best Midrange in terms of quality. This will not even come remotely close to a Macbook. But Gaming will be much better naturally.

I'd take a look into 2 Notebooks:

- Acer Swift X

- HP Envy 14

The Acer can come with a GTX 1650 and a more interesting RTX 3050 (RTX unlocking you the awesome DLSS feature, not to mention Raytracing).

While the HP Envy 14 comes with only a 4-core Intel Tiger Lake, however it can draw 42 Watt at all times, and can hold 3,8 Ghz. This thing has the Multicore of most U-series 6-Core Models. Also, this is 16:10 ratio and also has options for RTX 3050.

Both are 14" Laptops, so they will fit in your backpack while still letting you play Games quite decently.

Like Dell, alittle bigger, and don't need the 2in1? Dell Inspiron 16 Plus. There should be RTX 3050 configurations at the 1000 dollar mark~
