what cpu is this?

Go to solution Solved by gameboy3800,

searching for 'intel qadh' and ignoring the numbers does seem to suggest it is a Pentium M 770 ES cpu

i just got in this old laptop that doesnt post (just shuts down, unsure why, maybe this cpu is the reason?), and it has a cpu like no other i've ever seen.

my theory is that someone got a cheap ES cpu off ebay to do upgrade and extend its life, either that or its an early sample/prototype?

let me know what you think it is. its a pentium m/early core2duo age machine.

Have you ever looked at a CPU from 2003 before?

Looks like a Pentium M maybe.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

i know its likely a pentium M, but the exact model is what i'm wondering

Perhaps he sees the text that says "ES" and thinks it's an engineering sample?
Barracuda ES/Constellation ES drives aren't engineering samples, and they're called ES.

That should be a Pentium M 770, and it might be an ES version based on the lack of clock speed, cache, and bus speed information at the bottom. Also, ES is written next next to the stepping information.

A non-engineering sample Pentium M (and all other Intel mobile CPUs in this package) should have clock speed, cache, and bus speed markings at the bottom. That area is blank on the one OP posted.

Could just look up the number on the chip. Quick search finds me it's a Celeron M 320.

(The number on the left of the picture on the PCB)

if you look at any normal pentium m cpu, it clearly shows the clock speeds and cache on it. the one in my unit is very different.

My mistake then - probably just an engineering sample. Or perhaps an unbranded or OEM version of a CPU? Is that the original one sold with the laptop?

i dont think so, everything else has a date sticker on it. i think the original owner got this cpu as a cheap ebay upgrade to extend its life.

That would make sense, yeah.

If it's not clocking to what it should or the instability you mentioned, then that would further indicate it's an ES. Again, my mistake.

ive tried two other cpus and none get it to post. i tried the es cpu in another machine and it appears to be working fine. i think it could be a gpu problem but i dont have another clevo based old gpu to test with.
