is Malwarebytes legit and safe?

I am just wanting extra security from Malware since I have been playing Rising Storm 2, and no I haven't clicked on the MEGA Server which has had a know past for releasing malicious malware on your PC by just entering the server and it used the Steam overlay to do it. Not only that, but they even paid people to create servers with spoofed player counts to redirect people BACK to the MEGA Server and kept it going that way. Now these days people play on the server and it has been going around that the owner who previously held the name MEGA Server was no longer "running" the servers anymore. This is the only server that has 128 player slots, since this was modded to happen.

 

Now with the history on the table here; I don't want to take the risk of trying to play on server with the chance it could back-fire on me and put me in this situation I could've avoided all together

Malwarebytes is fine, I've used it for years (free version). 

 

The free version has no active protection after the trial expires, only scans work... which was perfect for my use case.
