Hi, this is my first post here. I am trying to build a mid-range yet beefy gaming rig, the only other useage I would have is simple office work, maybe Canva at a stretch. I live in Canada so there are some shipping restraints from some companies (also CAD). My budget was 1.5k but that seems to have gotten out of control as my current parts list is at 2k. I am upgrading this from a non-gaming Lenovo laptop who's only redeeming quality is it's 12gb of RAM.

My list rn is:

i5 12600k: Best buy $324

B660 MSI pro wifi m-atx (size doesn't matter it was the cheapest): B&H $188

Samsung 980 SSD 500gb M.2: Amazon $75

Corsair icue 220t airflow case: Amazon $125

Corsair Vengeance lpx 3600mhz 16gb RAM: Best Buy $90

Seasonic focus PSU 750W gold full-mod: Newegg $110

Asus rtx2060 oc dual-fan: Amazon $580

Windows 11 home usb key: Amazon $124

I'm looking for a second opinion, and if you have any thoughts on how to spend less for a  nonexistent to minimal performance loss then please share, thanks!

first, dont buy the retail windows. you can get a key for like 20 bucks, with the extra money buy another drive. znother m.2 or 2.5" ssd

Also, for that price of the 2060, you might can find a 3060, even 3060 ti for that price

one last thing, that micro atx board in the mid tower atx case will look a little goofy but, should work none the less. did you look at micro atx cases instead? theyre usually cheaper. also what cooler are you going to be using? air, water? stock cooler?

In Canada? Not so sure about that. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#c=499,497,511,509&sort=price&page=1

I would still wait because $461 USD for a 2060 is very hard to swallow.

@80Thatguy08 Your PSU is overkill unless you're planning to upgrade to a much beefier card soon. Do you have the 12600k just for the e-cores and slightly higher base clocks? Because you won't be able to overclock it with that board.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

... i know it's not as much fun but maybe build your system with the intergrated graphics makes sure everything works then look at gpu's. gpu prices are coming down daily. with that said the 2060 is an excellent card I would still highly recommend; still holds up (my brother is rocking a msi 2060 at 1080p with a 240hz monitor and his system is far more stable then my pc could ever be) but maybe build your pc first then order your gpu it could save you up to like $50 depending on how long it takes your parts to come in.

I am glad so.eone mentioned that, I was in fact thinking of that, but I have had (am having) bad experiences with Intel integrated

going integrated graphics at first doesnt hurt either.gpu prices are steadily coming down. Im surprised i got my 3060 ti at a half ass decent price lol got it when newegg actually had some in stock about a month ago but even theyve raised the prices since 😕

PSU, good to know. Also how do I know what boards support overclocking

Only Z690 boards can overclock 12th-gen Intel chips.

If you buy a motherboard you will probably have to buy a cr2032 battery for it.

No, he almost certainly will not. The lifespan of a 2032 battery is longer than LGA1700 boards have been produced. Please don't spread FUD.

@80Thatguy08 Stephen here had a problem with a board once where he claims the solution was replacing the CMOS battery on the board and now he just spams about that obsessively. Pay him no mind.

Yes, that MSI Z690 board would be capable of overclocking. However, I recommend you research and think about whether you really need/want to OC. It's really more of a hobbyist thing at this point, there is not a lot of real-world performance to be gained.

Spend more on the gpu. 12400f/5600 and a 3060ti will you give better performance than 12600K with 2060/6600XT. You may also want to buy a tower cooler(deepcool gammaxx 400s good cheap one) for cpu and up the ssd to 1tb.

You would have gotten the CPU and motherboard cheaper on microcenter and if you bundle a cpu with a compatible motherboard you can 20% off idk if there is microcenter in ca

Also some of the things like the ram you can get cheaper on Amazon and they are still good also the gpu? That is a little to much for the price you should wait and use integrated or buy another one

best buy canada lists a 6800m, it probably comes with either a 144hz qhd or a 300hz fhd screen.  you can compare components and builds on userbenchmark.com searching from google.  at least until the respected members and business owners figure out how to stop that.

UserBenchmark has some modicum of value for seeing how your system performs compared to others with identical specs, but is worse than useless for comparing one component to another.

everything looks decent except for 4 things, one, your psu looks a little bit under-spec, it will likely work, but wouldnt allow for many future upgrades. 2. See if going with a cheaper case (i perfer the thermaltake versa H22), would allow you to step up other hardware that would make the games go faster. 3rd, memory, the typical desktop user and even enthusiasts would not bring any benefit from corsair vengeance memory 90% of the time. I have built pc's in the past and have discovered that the regular crucial memory that has green pcb's does just fine for middle of the road hardware, given you are using dedicated graphics. If you had an i9 or something the story will be different, but for this i5 its fine. even the heatspreaders on most modern ddr4 modules are for looks, as ones without them still run decently cool as long as you have airflow in your case. 4. processor. You seem to have gone with a overclockable K-Series CPU, but you have a b series motherboard, which cannot overclock. I would go with a regular 12600 given you arent overclocking anyway. Overclocking the cpu these days bring negligible at best performance improvements. 5. get your windows license from a place like CDK deals. you can download the iso for free from microsoft using the media creation tool, which will download windows and put it on a usb drive for you. last thing, i noticed you didnt mention a cooler for the cpu, so im assuming you are using the stock cooler, which by the way is totally fine, i would use the stock heatsink myself, unless you must have a dead silent pc then which noctua air coolers are the best option there in terms of value for money.
