Short story, a co worker recently gave me his old HP A6500F desktop and me just being bored, decided to give it a $150 make over 🤣

Found this used CPU for $9 on Newegg and said F**k it! Besides 9 bucks, wasn't much to lose but this thing is in great condition! I was honestly surprised. Not a bad ass CPU by no means but, did I mention it was only $9? Lmao LOOK AT IT! Let's just hope she works! I'll post before and afters of the build when all parts arrive ❤️

9$ for an e8400? In my area those are like 3$ or lower, 9$ is for quads or better binned dual cores like e8600 or x5260

Oh god you dont need to spend that much on a dead platform, esp not on garbage hardware like an oem system. 775 is just for dirt cheap office and gaming pcs + overclocking enthusiasts, your pc falls into the dirt cheap office/gaming pc. I made the same mistake with my first pc when i built in 2018, could have gone straight to 1156 instead or atleast got a decent p45 board like said giga ep45 ud/asus p5e

150$ on 775 is more towards enthusiast ocing hardware so if you wanna waste that much then go get yourself a giga ep45 ud board or a decent x38/x48 board like those asus p5e along with some decent rams (prefferably micron d9gmh/gkx) and start benching

I have already wasted too much on this platform with dead boards or garbage p45 boards incapable of 500+ fsb (looking at you p5q) so just dont bother

You mad, bro? Lol this is a tinkering project, this is NOT going to be my main PC lolol that's just silly and yes, so is spending a hundred or 2 on this but it's fun, cheap, and my kids get to learn while helping build it. It's a win, win dude lol its gonna be a beast at Microsoft paint 🤣

It's not really a great deal. I have seen Q6600's go on AliExpress for about $5-6

its just really dumb to spend 150$ on trash tier hardware unless you are gonna go buy some decent enthusiast ocing boards and an oem is like the worst thing to spend on, only reason i see to spend on a 775 oem is to get it up and running decently for dirt cheap (~10-20$), turn into a dirt cheap gaming machine, or screw around with overclocking shenanigans (but not reccomended cause youll prob need to screw around with voltmod to get any real oc)

Good thing about 775 is everything is dirt cheap and cpus are bulletproof so thats why its good for beginners benching wise cause kill a cpu and go get another one for a few $, need to go buy a bunch of cpu and find a really good sample? Still dirt cheap cpus

lol $150 isnt even alot of money tho? Ive spent more money on in game purchases before 🤣 It appears our financial outlooks on life are completely different brotha and as Ive said, Its not about performance or just building a PC. Its a fun project for me and my kids to do together and that, sir, is WELL worth $150.

For most ppl its a decent amount of money, looking at the pcs you are prob pretty old and have succeded in life so yea 150$ isnt much in that context

Oh its a kids project, in that case you prob wouldnt want to go with said high end boards cause they might go screwing around in the bios and killing something cause high end boards tend to let you set volts that can actually straight up kill your components, my giga ep45 ds4p lets me set cpu voltage all the way to 2.3v which i honestly dont even know why the hell theyd let you set volt that high, esp when it doesnt even have an indicator that high volt can kill your cpu

if were talking garbage tier hardware most of the time they arent gonna let you set voltages that can kill stuff (unless you voltmod), heck oems dont even let you set anything most of the time in the bios, just extremely basic stuff like date and time + boot order, and there shouldnt even be any bios settings when set wrong can make the pc not post so no headaches with that

damn, when did 30s become "pretty old"? lol but yes, I get what youre saying. In that case, I am in fact old.

I concur.....and so do my knees.

30s is actually not that old, id consider 40s and up to be pretty old, actually i think my parents used to be quite succesful earlier in life in their early 30s but at some point they seem to have run out of money or something, i think it was ~2012 considering that they bought a pretty crappy house and before that we were just traveling around the world, though i dont remember much cause in 2012 i was like 5 years old xD

Actually they did tell me later that it was something along the lines of combination of bad money management and overspending on lifestyle stuff

For pcs i have a testbench that i screw around with, just waiting on a pump to finish my ghetto loop

Better hope i start making content soon cause i wanna milk my age advantage since most 14 year olds dont go screwing around with rather extreme overclocks and build stupid sht like a ghetto loop out of reused car and aquarium parts, especially not screwing around with garbage like voltmodding (physical mods to the board for better volt range or adjust volt on the fly), unfortunately gonna turn 15 next month 😞 but maybe i can still milk my age for content xD

*knees crack in solidarity*

I hate to say it but yeah, I spend about the same amount to overhaul my Core2 overclocking hardware when the mood overtakes me. A new rad here, a cheap water block there, maybe a dusty 780 Ti to add to the mix..  it adds up quickly.

I keep... I think last I counted it's 8 PC's in my workshop that go from an Athlon XP to high end 775 gear, all in various states of working order. I use them for our "Classic LAN" parties that we host, or at least used to host, before COVID hit.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Just think, it could be worse! Your parents could be broke and not even own a house lol always look at the bright side and now I get why you think $150 is alot of money lol because you're 14 🤣 all good tho! Thats awesome, actually. Keep learnin brotha and link me to the youtube channel when its all up and running

Yea it could be worse

For now i do already have something to make content out of which is running my ddr2 extreem dark 1066 to 1520mhz 7-9-6-10 with garbage subtimings at 2.34v, but im just too damn lazy to upload it and my phone camera also sucks ass cause cheap vivo (ill prob swap for a used s20+ in the near future since i also play mc somewhat competitively and content creation based around gaming)

I think ill just name my channel the same as my ltt profile cause i cant come up with any better names

After getting the ghetto loop set up im prob gonna go buy 6gb in 2x3 and see how far i can push it at 2v along with cpu swap in hopes of a better bin cpu cause this x5660 is pretty horrible bin due to 3rd core constantly crapping out
