ROG STRIX MAXIMUS XII APEX Z490 BIOS update to Z590 and gen4 support?

Hello world,

I have an ROG STRIX MAXIMUS XII APEX Z490 and I would wanna run an 11th gen chip in it because I wanna run high speed gen4 storage, and 2 gen4 gpus (thats why I chose this board since it can support up to 2 x8 pcie devices). How can this be done? I am pretty knowledgible in the tech space but I havent had to do any bios updates yet..

Thank You,

e.

You can run a 11th gen chip but the board is pcie 3.0 only.

Any reason for high speed gen 4 storage and 2 gpu's?

2 to 3 active users on one cpu, multiple display outs, kinda like a mini home server. Its not ideal in terms of core count but its doing the job (currently a 10700k). I heard some better z490 boards can support gen4 with a bios update?

That would be odd.

Either way upgrading to a 11 gen cpu would do very little to nothing for you as the difference between a 10700k and 11900k is almost nothing.

Yes, the ASUS Maximus XII Apex will gain PCI-E 4.0 support with the use of a 11th Gen CPU.

HOWEVER, that only applies to the PCI-E x16 slots (i.e. ones used for graphics cards).

The M.2 slots and the PCI-E X16 slots are STILL PCI-E 3.0. This is because the PCI-E lanes come from the Z490 motherboard chipset.
