Budget (including currency): 1600€ + 1000€ in 4/5 months (Euros)

Country: Luxembourg

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly blender

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): MSI GeForce GTX 770 TF OC - 2 Go

Hi,

I'm currently looking advice for a new build, mostly for small blender projects with some particle effect and gaming. I've been looking around about this but sometimes it gets overwhelming with all the options.

Note that the fastest render time is not what im focusing at for small projects like mine.

The point of this build is to be TIMEproof so it can handle things for some years and not upgrading it till I'll buy a whole new system.

Currently i have an old MSI GeForce GTX 770 TF OC - 2 Go and was thinking about building my new setup with this gpu until the new 40xx normally coming out later this year. Current prices are still over msrp and buying the high end gpu is the price of a whole high end pc without gpu.

So would you rather having a 5950x with 64gb 3600 cl 16 ram and dark hero motherboard to overclock or something mid tier cpu and gpu? And why.

If ill stick with my old gpu i still will buy later the new gen gpu.

My budget would be 1600€ for this build and i would put 1000€ more when the new gen comes out. I can put money aside the next months to be able to buy the newer end gpu but now i do t have the whole budget to do so.

Two more things:

1 - I don't mind not playing the latest games till i get a new gpu if thats the route I'll take as I'll be focusing more on blender.

2 - I can travel to Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg as i live in the border of them all and have addresses to get delivered if needed to.

Hopefully someone can help me.

Dark hero is a joke, that is a subzero overclocking only board and it is a complete paperweight on ambient, its not even the best board for proper overclocking, for that youd wanna look at the evga x570 dark for that and still any xoc boards are complete paperwieghts on ambient cooling

Prob go for a more midrange cpu like a 12700(f) and not bother with cpu overclocking though if you are not rendering with gpu then a powerful cpu does help, in that case its abit overbudget but you may wanna look at cheap 32 core zen2 epyc cpus like 7452/7502(p), pretty expensive considering the boards and octa channel ram but if you really want futureproof then this may be the way to go, unfortunately gaming performance will prob suffer abit cause these epycs dont clock very high but blender or any cpu intensive application that utilizes lots of cores can benifit

Thank you for the responses, i wanna keep it in a high end but still consumer level. The epyc is out of budget unfortunately. If overclocking is not worth it on a 5950x that means i can look at cheaper mbs or eventually even get a mini itx to do a sff build. As im planing to watercooling.
