Whenever I run the 3DMark 11 benchmark, my new system (probably the power supply fan) makes weird noises, and then, a couple seconds later, my computer shuts off, and my motherboard tells me it shut down because it detected a power supply surge or something. It's a 500 watt, and it's powering an i5-4670k (at stock speeds), 3 sticks of DDR3 RAM, 2 hard drives (I'll remove one once I get the data copied over), and an R9 270 at 1125/1500 with a power limit of +20%. There is no way my PSU is reaching its limit, right? It's a little less than a year old, and for the most part, I left my system on 24/7. Also, I have an ASUS Z87-Plus motherboard.

Edit: Oops, I didn't update the parts in my signature.

Edit Again: Wait, yes I did. Maybe it just didn't update. Weird.

what brand is your PSU?

you need to get a higher quality one to protect your components...

im guessing you have a cheap no name brand

If you want to know what power supply I'm using, you can LOOK in my signature. It is plainly labeled.

Your power supply isn't a great one.  It is not even 80+ certified. If your  power supply makes noises under load, then it is probably dying. I would suggest you buy a new one from a decent brand.

I was hoping that wasn't it. I did a couple Valley benchmarks, and I had no problems with that, though. However, the 3D Mark bench doesn't even get through the demo before my computer shuts down.

Yeah, I'll get a new one if I need to.

if its only when you run that benchmark and not when youre gaming, try running other benchmarks

also replace it ASAP if it still happens with other benchmarks cause it is very possible your components will be damaged if they do not have proper surge protection

you could end up having to replace your entire mobo and/or processor as well

I actually had that PSU running my rig in my signature (with a 7970 OC'ed to 1125/1575 instead of a 770). And it ran flawlessly, and i know the noise your hearing the psu rattles i had to readjust it several times. The fan spins at a very high RPM.

Also you might try to turn your gpu to default clocks and rerun the benchmark and see if this still happens.
