Hello, soon I will have my new house and I'm looking for a New network set up, I was thinking to go with Ubiquiti products:
-Unifi Dream machine pro

-Ubiquiti USW-24-POE 10 Gbit switch

-3x  unifi wifii 6 lite access point

-3x Unifi G4-Bullet Camera

- 1x Unifi G4-Doorbell

What do you guys think? There are different interesting options for this kind of set up on similar budget?  Maybe there is something new coming out soon that I'm not aware so it's worth to wait few months? I'm open to suggestions 🙂

Cheers

Frank

What are your needs? Do you need all of those switch ports?

What kind of area are you covering? Multiple floors? Wall materials? More helpful information might be offered with a floor plan layout and positions of APs. Ubiquiti has a design center for that.

The switch uses the wrong kind of poe variant AT/BT instead of AF and the APs use AF

What do you need all this for?  Are you running a business out of your home?  What type of work will this be for?

Is there a reason a simple mesh system won't work?

yes I run my business from home, so all of this is to secure my property and have a solid internet access all around the house (basement, 2 floor , garage and garden). Not sure 1 single mesh is enough to have a solid signal all around the house and the garden around (1 Acre)

My need is to have a secure internet and secure my property and have control of the internet traffic + router configurations ( I like to create different type of environments/labs for learning purposes ). Yes 24 ports is a reasonable number for my set up/ needs. I will definitely check Ubiquiti design center 😉 thanks for the suggestion.

Going through the specifications for the USW-24-POE shows support for 802.11at/af on ports 1-16, with voltages within range required by the U6-Lite.

Are the  UAP-AC-PRO-5 compatible? Maybe the integrated switch on the Dream machine is compatible?

The UAP-AC-Pro is a older generation of WiFi 5 (pre-wave 2) for high density environments. The nanoHD and FlexHD are wave 2 WiFi 5 APs, which would be better than the AC-Pro.

The U6-Lite actually performs better than those APs mentioned above in home environments and costs less. Unless you are in an environment where there are multiple wireless clients connecting, the U6-Lite should be sufficient. Place them strategically around the house with the help of the Design Center and you should be good.

BTW, the '5' in 'UAP-AC-Pro-5' is for the 5-pack box of APs. These volume units do not contain PoE injectors and require you have a compatible PoE switch or injectors of your own.

Also, the UDM-Pro has no PoE ports. The newer generation UDM-Pro-SE, however, has some.
