Should I uprgade to AIO?

Numark

Hello,

Before I put forward my dilemma, let me give a bit of a background.

I live in Thailand and it's a tea pot during summers, the winters are like the summers of the northern hemisphere. The humidity and the temperature here can get very high during the day thereby increasing the temperature of the room. Of course I do have air conditioning but during summers (for a few months) its not as effective (trust me it gets TOO HOT). Although it does its job by making the room temperature "normal".

I have a Ryzen 5900x running with a Noctua NH-U12S (black) air cooler, which does a fairly good job. However, there's one simulator that I regularly play (Prepar3D), which is a VERY CPU intensive sim, which makes the temperatures reach upto 90 easily, thereby making the CPU throttle. To combat this, I have currently enabled PBO limiting the temperature to 85 on the CPU.

Now my question is whether getting an AIO cooler improve the temperature of the CPU while simming that simulator? I have my eyes on EK-AIO 360, Arctic Liquid and Corsair h150i Pro. Or should I stick to my current strategy of limiting CPU temp to 85?

PS: Case is Phanteks P500A.

Thanks!

If its just one sim then i dont really see the point of upgrading the cpu cooler

Btw what is your all core clockspeed and voltage when all cores are hammered with a heavy stress test? Cause you can prob do some optimization with pbo curve optimizer, also have a look at freq + volt while playing prepar3d

90 Degrees is fine with a CPU like that. It is on the hot side but as long as it's not on like 110 degrees, there's not that much to worry about. Both my laptops hit 95 degrees regularly. One is an i7 10750H and the other has an i7 10750U. You can try undervolting your CPU to make it use less power and therefore release less heat

If you have the money, go for it. But you'll have to go for the best to actually get a meaningful difference. I'd go with the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 and pick up some Thermal Grizzly kryonaut or even Conductonaut.

You should get a aim for Ryzen 9 they get toasty with air coolers, I would recommend a kraken x63 or a Corsair icue  h100i rgb pro xt

I would have been ok if i was playing other stuff, but this is one sim that I use almost everyday for several hours. Some flights can even last for 8-10 hours haha. It's on real time, so if a flight takes 8 hours irl, it will take 8 hours in the sim too. I am a developer so I turn the sim on when I wakeup and do my work during cruise.

I was also aiming for Arctic Liquid 360, however unfortunately its not available from the dealer from who I buy my parts from. And yeah I cannot trust other dealers here, have had some bad experiences in the past. Here's the list of AIO's that I can get https://www.jib.co.th/web/product/product_list/3/1723

I do have air condition in all the rooms as mentioned in the OP. Trust me it gets so hot that even the air condition starts to be ineffective. Yes it helps in making the room to reach a "normal" temperature but then it doesn't cool. And on top of that, there's heat being released from the pc as well which adds to it.

Can't look at that list atm, but if the EK one you mentioned is on there, then go with that.

I don't think you need an AIO. Maybe a better heatsink, and better case flow.

hello fellow south east asian inhabitant, i would say u try negative curve optimizer 1st

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/liqi65/ryzen_5000_share_your_curve_optimizer_negative/

if cpu still peaks at 90c, swap your existing fan on NH-U12S to two

2x NF-A12x25 PWM or 2x Vento Pro 120 PWM (aka nidec gentle typhoon) or Arctic P12 pwm pst
