The gpu in question is an RX 5500XT.

My computer has been running fine since I made it. But earlier today I got up to grab a drink while launching Elden ring. When I got back to my desk all I had was a grey screen.

I tried all the basic things I could think of and got no change.

When I opened up the case while it was running I could see the GPU fans weren't running.

When. I turn the PC on the fans start up for a short moment at a very slow speed then stop. They won't turn on again after that. The 8 pin power connector is working I even tried a spare 8pin with no change. It's looking like the GPU has died but I honestly don't know enough to be sure of this assumption.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

try it in a different computer.

try a diffrent gpu in your current computer.

I don't have any other PC to test with but I did find my old 1050ti and it seems to be doing the same thing so it may not be the gpu. I've removed the CMOS and ram  and plugged everything back in but the issue still persists

Also, specs? I suspect PSU.

I agree,GPUs don't suddenly die like that on their own.

GPUs tend to gradually degrade, when the GPU is close to it's death due to degradation it will start displaying artifacts or drivers crash while playing games.

what psu?

also quikc way to reset cmos is:

remove the power cord

take of the battery

hold the power on button on the case for a minute.

now put the battery back adn plug the power card in.
