NVIDIA driver updates per Game Release

Hello everyone,

Not sure but I believe this is my first post and instead of dropping somewhere else, this was my FIRST PLACE TO GO idea
Hope for great minds and good answers.

 

Anyways, back to my questions...

How and why does Nvidia pushes driver updates for eventually new and upcoming games?

 

I'm no man of game development and that industry, but the logic for me goes like this:

 

GAME DEVELOPER needs to test his game as he develops it. He gets a PC with let's say Nvidia 3060ti and yeah, it works good, the game is optimized and he is happy.

The game developer decides to publish his game. Game gets published and NVIDIA releases an update for that Game.

 

Like what happened, why and how? Is the hardware from the devs different in some unknown way that nvidia always has a fix?! I just don't get it.

Does AMD do the same? I mean, my whole life I was surrounded with nvidia and for the past few years mostly AMD, not that I am a fan boy or something, just don't understand the idea behind those updates.

 

p.s. as a old timer and few decade old CS player, I remember a time where we had to downgrade our graphics drivers to like 5 year old ones to get a better performing and higher FPS in CS then with the latest ones. Just sayin

The games that get such updates are ones where Nvidia has worked with the developers to optimize hardware features for the game. This is why the updates are always for big name titles and not random indie ones.

 

The drivers today don't just make the hardware work. They can recognize that a particular piece of software is running and will change the way the card works to help the software run optimally. During development, Nvidia can also give beta drivers for the development team to test with, and work on that branch of their drivers to help the game run well.
