Did Valve forbid reviewers from using eMMC?

Harlan

Since Valve didn't provide anyone with the base model¹, do you think they also told reviewers to not install an eMMC SSD into it for testing?

Cloning to a smaller SSD isn't impossible, so why has nobody done it²? Yoinking one from a Chromebook should be pretty simple.

I ordered the etched glass one, but it'd still be interesting to see. If there wasn't some agreement to avoid it I imagine GN or LTT would have done this already.

¹ not that I know of

² I haven't really been digging through discord, so I could be wrong

Taking a random EMMC from some other device would make no sense since that wouldn't say anything about the one that's going to come in the EMMC version of the SD...

Folks speculate. I think it'd make sense because only cheap devices use those, even some cheap windows machines.

I can't imagine there's a massive difference between the best eMMC storage and the worst.

There aren't like 'gaming' eMMC chips afaik.
