Rosewill SMG750 Info Help

Fungineering

Hey gang,

Wondering if anyone could help figure out what OEM and caps the SMG750 uses or at least give an idea to the quality of the product. Information on it is incredibly sparse aside from scant reviews and a couple Reddit posts here and there which doesn't give the best impression. The only lead I can find is that the 1000W model is similar to the Chieftec Polaris (High Power) which is a LTT/Cultist B tier but that's still pretty ambiguous since sometimes one OEM doesn't fit all power ranges.

Spontaneously bought a 750W model still wrapped for $40 CAD from a bundle buyer and was thinking about putting it in a 10400/GTX 1070 build but a good Rosewill model is generally the exception with their 73 different SKUs. On paper it seems fine (100% Japanese caps, lots of protections, fully modular and an okay five year warranty) but in practice might be a totally different story.

Any help would be great.

Sure thing although I don't have the two bills to include in the photo anymore. 🙃

Also, thanks! Long time LTT fan but usually just relied on the reddit for info but I find a lot of the subreddits aren't very helpful lately.

This is a PSU that you can buy from Rosewill for 185 USD, or Newegg for 125 USD and you got it for 40 CAD(31-32 USD).

I cannot tell you much about it, but if the retail price is kinda that high, I would check what is inside the box.

That's why I bought it without thinking too much since, even when bundled with the 2060 (the one he got), it's ~$110 CAD. I feel like the MSRP price is more like a "this is so we can wow people when they see it's almost 50% off" eye catcher. Still super cheap though and if I didn't live in a backwater I would be more suspicious with a scamming op.

The general state of the packaging and the box is pretty immaculate though so I'd be hard pressed to think there's a brick in it and more like the seller either not knowing the value (which would be weird but okay for me) or just wanted quick cash because he just spent, like, $600 for a 2060 and wants beer money to drink that sorrow away.

I'll pop it open though just to be sure later tonight. The way I kind of feel about it is if it's not DOA or a brick then it'll only be powering, like, 300w maxed out with all the bells and whistles so I can't imagine it'll be breaking too much of a sweat even if it's not great but PSUs are always such a rabbit hole that it's always worth finding out more first.

This is getting more fishy.

People can put new plastic on boxes, if they got the tool to do it, and these could be swapped or stolen items, because the price is way too cheap.

Maybe, lol.

I think i've already answered you on Reddit or THW. This PSU is essentially the same thing as Chieftec Polaris, made by Sirfa / High Power, a decent budget PSU. There are no reviews tho and i don't recall where i got that info from, maybe someone disassembled the thing. But for 40 CAD it worth it as long as you only need a budget PSU.
