So in my car (2014 Tesla Model S) it has a factory sub in a plastic enclosure. I had some extra sound deading material left over after i finished with my doors and figured I'd throw some on the outside of the enclosure. My logic was if the box vibrates less then more sound can escape from the speaker and the vent hole. But now i dono if its the same or worse since i didnt really do a proper before test.

If it were a normal car i'd just make a enclosure from MDF but since its location in the tesla is a pretty weird shaped thats not really much of an option which is why i just stuck the dynamat on the outside. I could probably make one out of MDF but it would be a PITA to get all the angles of the space right.

Also ive seen some sub enclosures have what looks like a cotton filler taking up some of the space inside, this one is empty but does have a bunch of plastic "baffles" I'm assuming to keep the sound moving in some sort of way.
