My laptop at the moment is not cut out for the job

I cant work and have practically no money.

how bad do you need it? i knew a guy who was in a similar situation, he made a dissension to sell his body, he ended up making more money then what he originally set out to do so he changed his career. he is now a gay for pay porn actor. you need to explain to your parents what your doing and what you need to do. tell em its an investment until that architect money comes in you will take care of them.

Is this for real? I don't know if I should be laughing or taking this thread seriously 😆

Imagine this situation:

Child: "Mom, I want to become an Architect"

Mom: "Oh, that's great!"

Child: "I need a new PC to study"

Mom: "You already have a PC at home"

PC at home:

Child: "But I need a better one"

Mom: "Well, who's gonna pay for it"

Child: "I'll figure out a way"

You should state your budget... I expect battery life is very important if you are running around classes, if you want to type essays in the library and so forth. Then a recent 2017 onwards PC for running around with batteries, and a used gaming PC for the home, On ebay i found deals of people selling entire rigs that were 30% of the shop price, I mean, you can get 2x as much performance for a home PC for raytracing as an architect.

Stuff like 3d modeling etc. Plus my laptop is surpisingly slow anyway.

Would have thought any decent software would cost more than a computer tbh

sounds like a problem with your laptop in particular, get it checked out at a service center.

Oh my gosh, funny you say that.

I had an i7 8750 with a 1050 Ti, 8gb 256gb, 1080p. They repaired that 4 times and refused to replace it.

I went through higher management and they finally replaced it with a 10750, 1650 Ti, 16 gb 512gb, 4k.

It's still awful.

Warranty has run out now anyway.

Probably learning to write English correctly would be something to think about first. Architecture needs accuracy, sloppy English indicates a lack of thinking and accuracy.

At your level  there are free programmes that will do the job on a much lower specification computer. The last building extension we did used it and that software is still being used for renovations.

As an aside, I still have my mother's T square and drawing instruments that she used to design houses with in the 1930s and 1960s. Then she moved into electrical repair work.
