I really hope AMD decreases the price per core this generation. Dropping the core count by one tier would likely be necessary to compete against Intel hybrid design in the next few generations. As currently the Intel i5 is often better than AMD Ryzen 7 in multicore, that means that if AMD tries to compete against the 12600K in multicore without increasing core counts they would require almost 50% increase in IPC compared to Zen 3, which is likely impossible currently.

Being DDR5 only also isn't going to help if they don't drop the prices, ideally Zen 4 would be similar to Ryzen 2000 price wise, with it under cutting significantly their Intel counterparts, otherwise AMD might start to drop the market share they finally were able to get.

 

I think that if AMD releases Zen 4 for the same price as Zen 3, but with expensive motherboards, expensive RAM and lower multicore performance, they will have a real hard time justifying the extra costs over Intel options.
