Got hacked pls help!

Go to solution Solved by kb5zue,

The safest thing would be to use the Windows Media Creation Tool with a USB flash drive.  Make sure to get the Tool directly from Microsoft and most definitely use a different machine to get it with.  That way the flash drive won't be infected when downloaded.

Using the Tool, delete all the partitions on the infected boot drive (c:) and then repartition and format.  Then do the install.  While you are doing this install, do not connect to the internet in any way.  Unplug any internet cables and disconnect any antennae.  This will do a standalone install and then only after that is complete, then you can connect the internet cable/antennae again.  First thing after connecting to internet and Microsoft updates are downloaded/installed be sure the Microsoft Defender/Antivirus in installed and running.

After this you should be good to go.

Good Luck.

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngSo basically I wanted to download premiere pro cracked version

Few days later my roblox account got hacked and lost some robux(got em back) then my brothers instagram account was registered with a different mail and the password was changed(he got control over it now)

Invest in something like Dashlane while you're at it, and use 2FA for as many accounts as possible.

I have a lot more peace of mind now that I use 2FA for important accounts like Google and MS; in addition to having a solid password manager generating far better passwords than I could ever come up with let alone remember.

Sucks if you're like me and use your phone as your authenticator though; if you change your phone you gotta go through a lot of hoops when you upgrade. Such is the price of security I guess.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Apart from agreeing with others, and hope you learned a lesson. I'd use something to encrypt the drive then format it, BitLocker if you have it, or Veracrypt if not. Some might say that's overkill, but if something like this happened to me, I'd absolutely be taking the extra step.

Agree, I haven't tried Dashlane, but since I started using Bitwarden it's been a life saver! Got rid of my tatty notebook full of passwords a long time ago.

The phone authenticator annoyance is why I invested in a couple of YubiKeys for 2FA on certain accounts, they are great! Would highly recommend if the phone thing bugs you enough. Supported app list:

I use 2FA for critical finance sites.  One thing to be careful about if you use Google Authenticator app.  Make sure you follow the correct procedure to back it up if you get a new phone!!  I got a new Pixel phone over the summer and wasn't paying attention.  I transferred all the apps via the USB C tether but that does not transfer the user information.  I wiped the old phone right away which was a no-no.  You cannot recover the authenticator user info.😑  there was only one account that was a PayPal account for an organization that I was treasurer and I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get access restored.

Most of my account I rely on text message for the 2FA code.  I've used Password Safe for years as the manager.
