G-sync on Maxwell GPUs

Does G-sync (variable refresh rate) work with Maxwell GPUs? Fairly noob question but since Nvidia said "nO frEesYnC suPpORt oN mAXweLl" I've become skeptical whether or not their own proprietary BS offers VRR for older cards.

that's gotta be a no as Nvidia hasn't planned or implemented VRR (Gsync/Freesync) To gpus from maxwell and prior

Then what was the point of G-sync prior to Pascal if they didn't offer VRR?

it all comes down to Vesa VRR standard, a non-certified G-Sync can work in theory on pascal even if it doesn't have say Displayport 1.2 or HDMI 2.0 or something

 

But yeah, Maxwell and Pascal are different GPUs as you know

I've had my ass handed to me once on this topic so I'll chime in. G-sync do work on GPUs going back to GTX6XX series BUT Freesync/Gsync-compatible monitors require GTX10XX series cards running pascal GPUs.

This is wrong. "G-Sync compatible" (IE Nvidia just finally giving up and supporting FreeSync by any other name) doesn't work on cards before Pascal. "Real" G-Sync with the proprietary hardware module inside the monitor was introduced in the Kepler era, the GTX 650 ti was the first card to support it. So in theory any monitor with the actual G-Sync hardware module (which I believe is branded as G-Sync Ultimate now although I might be wrong) should support G-Sync on a Maxwell card.

ah I see, I'm sorry, yeah I wanted to try to say that G-sync compatible monitors won't work with maxwell but certified ones may will

 

I guess just poor phrasing or research on my end
