Alright, sorry if this isn't the right place to post this but I tried searching everywhere for an answer for ages. I've always had this problem when uploading my videos on youtube: the bitrate seems very poor, even if the file had a very good quality. After searching everything I found out that in the "stats for nerds" section of youtube my videos have the codec "avc1.4d4014 (298)" while literally every video of popular youtubers have the codec "av01.0.08M.08 (398)". Is there a problem with my videos having this codec instead of the other one? How can I change it?

I use obs to record my videos, and I use nvidia nvenc h.264 (new) as the encoder with the rate control set to CQP and the CQ level to 16. I then use premiere pro to edit the video. Originally I used VBR 2 pass to render it, but found that CBR gave me a better quality (even if it still looks pretty bad). Any tips for what I'm doing wrong?

No. YT chooses codecs based on popularity and age of video (older = more time to re-encode).

I'm not aware of any way to force the YT video codec. Codec 398 is an AV1 format that I can't say I've seen before, so I wouldn't be too concerned.

YT seems to mangle videos of smaller resolution; there's not a lot you can do. The best quality comes from 4K, even if it's up-sampled from something less.

Thank you, couldn't get this off of my head for the past 3 months.
