Ryzen 5 2600

Asus Strix GTX 1080 - Driver Version 5.11.23

(it is outdated I am well aware)

2560x1440 resolution

Warzone Average FPS - 90 (not exact)

Warzone Low FPS - have seen it hit 2 and game freezes for 10 seconds or so

Fortnite Average FPS - 110 (not exact)

Fortnite Low FPS - Have seen it drop as 30

Pictures below show my Afterburner configuration, and my task manager when in a Warzone game (noted by 5% utilization on GPU) and in the lobby (33% utilization on GPU).

It is worth noting I have never seen my GPU hit over 72 degrees when playing either game.

I typically have one chrome tab open at most while gaming.

Now to the actual problem, it is concerning to see such low utilization from my GPU so is there something I can check that is causing this? Secondly, I think this causes major frame drops in certain games (90 FPS to 5 FPS) predominantly Warzone. My game freezes often and makes the game unplayable.

At first, I thought it was just the game, I tried to scan and repair app files, didn't fix it.

I had noticed that when the game freezes, my whole computer does, if I am watching a youtube video while playing Warzone, both monitors freeze up and no audio from youtube or the game.

I have updated drivers for both CPU and GPU, I have reinstalled the game multiple times and now I am at a stand still.

Any help here would be absolutely appreciated!

When checking CPU utilisation you need to look at all cores/threads.  If one core hits 100% its probably the main game core and will bottleneck the GPU.  Although I certainly wouldn't expect it to perform as badly as you are getting.

You could be running out of RAM and that would cause a sudden lurch to low values as it purges data to the page file, but again you need to know WHAT the RAM is being used for as it might mostly be cache which will be cleared rather than dumped to the page file so would be fine.

hi

i think your seeing the problem youself

your ram is nearly full

also watching youtube while playing game means your openning chrome which is a memory hog itself

you need a decent ram upgrade

cpu bottleneck, you can even see in ur screenshots.

sadly there is not much u can do but upgrade it.  and even then u'll probably have to cut down on the background processes for demanding games.

I don't ever watch youtube while gaming, I mainly just did it as an experiment to see if the game itself was freeze or if it was my entire system. However, I do believe I need a ram upgrade. 16GB just isn't enough these day I guess.

Most likely need to upgrade to 32GB ram. I am planning a new build for the future but with the everlasting GPU situation, who knows if that will happen anytime soon.

Rough thing is, I am planning on building in the NZXT H1 case, and not sure if finding a 4 channel motherboard in M-ITX is going to be easy. Looks like I upgrade temporarily or wait for  the world to settle down lol.

I do appreciate your input!

Like I said, I wouldn't swear to the RAM without seeing where its being used - its typical to use all RAM due to caches as why not when it speeds up loading and anything not recently used is simply discarded if more RAM is actually needed.  However I have had 32GB for quite a while now so don't have any first-hand experience of how much you actually need.
