I'm fairly new to the networking and network storage conversation, so forgive me if this is an ignorant question. Or in the wrong forum topic... I'm curious how the following scenario would be set up, if it's possible at all. I'm imagining two computers on a home network, with independent dedicated network storage such as a NAS. I would like to be able to have my Steam library downloaded to the network storage location. From here, I would like to be able to install a game on a given computer from that network storage location rather than the internet. I know you can only be logged in and playing from ONE steam account at a time, but it would be handy to be able to reinstall games if getting a new computer (with new drives) or installing on multiple computers for separate users as an example. This way, with a very average internet connection, I wouldn't have to re-download 100+ gigabyte games over the internet every time which takes forever. My in-home networking is much faster than the connection to the house. So a few questions on this: Does the scenario make sense? Is it even possible? If so, what kind of hardware/software would it take to make it happen? Would appreciate any insight, Thanks.

So Steam and a few other game launchers offer an option to setup a network cache for that kind of thing, but its tedious, and it would only make downloading faster since you are doing over the local network, instead of getting the data off of steams servers, you wouldnt be able to play the games off of the NAS, but you could twist this question another way, and make a local cloud gaming server, where you have a pc built in one room, and you can access it from another pc, using it like Stadia

What you want is considered Steam caching.
It will make the files that need to be downloaded available on the local network. (by using a NAS)

LTT did a video about it, and also has a forum post on howto and stuff.
I would higly suggest checking this out.
