Power supply and GPU help

Go to solution Solved by MrYuriy,

sorry if i didn't make this clear

i only have one 8 pin power cable that can snap off into a 6 pin

So do you have that one AND another 8pin that doesn't have 2pins snap off?

Or just that one 8pin and a 6pin as you mentioned earlier?

If the latter, than yes you need a new power supply that offers x2 PCIe cables. These can be 8pin or 6+2pin.

I was setting up my new pc and when I got to my graphics card I noticed that it had 2x 6 connectors so 12 in total. My psu only has a 6 pin/8 pin connector. How would I go about this? Can I just put the 6/8 pin into the card or do I need to buy another PSU or an adapter?

Specs:

PSU: Corsair CS430M Modular (came with 2 hard drive power cables, an 8 pin to 6/8 pin PCI power cable, and some molex connector thingys)

GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 Dirt 3 edition (just the card. no cables or anything) Maximum Power draw (according to bit-tech) is 225W if that helps

You're going to need another PSU that offers x2 PCIe cables. There's not much you can do with that one.

@Prokart2000 - That's his problem, he doesn't have x2 6pin PCIe cables.

cant you make the 8pin a 6 pin and put both of them in and leave the 2 pin hanging

My Setup :P

If his power supply only came with one 8pin and one 6pin as he mentioned, then no.. Because the 8pin would be the 8pin for the motherboard power, not PCIe.

No problem mate.

Also, you can go with the Corsair CX600, it's under $40, 80+ Certified, is a damn solid PSU, and comes with the cables you need. You'll have extras.
