EVGA RTX 3080s

Jacobq11

Good evening everyone,

I have been blessed once again to obtain a 2nd RTX 3080 via the EVGA queue. I will be selling to a good friend at cost rather than scalping it, but I want to get your option on which 3080 to keep for myself.

The first one was a EVGA XC3 Hybrid Ultra Gaming Non-LHR (AIO cooled) and the second one is a EVGA FTW3 Ultra Gaming LHR (aircooled)

I Guess the ultimate question is: Does the FTW3 perform any better than hybrid XC3? I've had some back luck with AIOs in the past and I kinda feel it would be more reliable to go with the aircooled card.

Assuming the AIO cooler is good on the XC3, it should outperform the FTW3. Keeping temps down on modern cards is important for maintaining maximum boost clocks. I would guess that, head to head, the XC3 would win in the long run, even if the FTW3 started out strong, because the XC3 will be able to get rid of heat more efficiently and effectively.

That said, if you don't want to deal with an AIO, and your friend is okay with it, then give him that card. We're talking about a few percent difference in performance here - I doubt you'd be able to notice the difference without looking at the FPS numbers.

From personal experience, the air cooled card will outlast the watercooled one.

Must be nice, I've been on the list since Dec 2020.

Same. I’ve managed multiple cards through Best Buy in that time but I’m still holding on to MY EVGA queue just to see…

I also was able to secure a card through a local vendor at an outrageous price. And it was a Zotac model... so of course I held on to my queue. But now when I go and try to check my EVGA account, I have no where that I can see to view that I even was placed in a queue. Other than the email I have from them on Dec 31, 1:45am confirming the model and that I was in their queue.

I seem to recall there was a spot previously on your EVGA account page that would show what models you had asked to be notified about in the queue. I can't for the life of me find that now.

Edit, found it, it was under notifies:

Never had much luck online.  About 1-2 months after release I got one at Microcenter at MSRP (didn't wait in line I just showed up at lunch).

I think the problem is a lot of people held out for "better availability" and it just got worse.  Earlier this year I tried to upgrade it to a 3090 and had no luck whatsover.
